Question 93 impreza L top speed?

I'm new to the whole forum thing so I apologize if someone already posted this question. Can anyone tell me the top speed of my stock 1993 Impreza L? Speedometer reads 140 but I have my doubts. Thanks.

damn, 190k miles?? impressive... My car tops out at about the same speed on even ground. I got it up to 140 once when i was driving downhill with a stiff tailwind.

so the car is capable of 140.......Just on a good day. What would help me reach that speed easier? Is there a gear ratio mod available for the 93?

I have a 95 and it is green. There is no way it could make it to 140, not even downhill. It seems to run into a wall at about 105 and takes forever to get to 110. I have 172k on the odometer and it runs perfectly. Do you have a standard transmission? Maybe they put a limiter on in the models after yours.

Yes I do have a manual transmission. I've had it to 90 in 4th gear. I figured 5th would at least make it to 120.

Yes the green color does affect top speed. You see, bugs are attracted to it like crazy and the impact of hundreds of bugs commiting suicide on my grill and windshield slows me down!

94 1.8 w/ 170k 5 speed At 6000 for the elevation
i got it to 108 and increasing before a 70mph(recommened at 50) turn came up.
Depending on the temp and elevation i could go about 120 if i had room around 105 i was increasing slower

do any of you guys have a speed limiter bypass or something, because i read somewhere that a lot of subarus have a speed limiter on them at 112mph..i know my car has one because i hit it on the highway and couldn't go any faster, so either some of you are full of it or there's no speed limiter on you car.

Hit 115 in my 99RS w/ 95000. It felt like it hit the limiter because I felt the gas cutting off

I think some have a limiter. Maybe the years after his, because that's exactly what mine feels like. It's pretty quick up to 95, then it gets weak quickly. I have new fuel pump filter, and perfect injectors, so it must be the ecu doing it. I know it should be able to hit 120-125 with 110hp, older cars with the same or less hp and heavier have done it.

Sorry, but it didn't have a lot left in it, it cuts out at 112. I had a 99 impreza L 5 speed before my rex and it was fairly quick, but unfortunately cut out at 112 (still pulling ok to that point).

I was with my friend in his 93 L with a 1.8 and it got up to 125 fairly quickly. It was a slight downhill and he has an axle back and S-AFC, but I really doubt they helped too much.

95 L 1.8 AWD 5speed I managed 127MPH and still had a few hundred RPM left. There is no speed limiter on the early Ls with manuals trans. They are limited by power and gearing (fuel cut occurs at redline in 5th gear).

The FWD Ls had taller gearing so in theory, with enough power, they will be faster. problem is they dont have enough power....

Yeah fwd makes a huge difference in the 1.8s, don't you agree? My other friend had a 1.8 awd and it was pathetically slow. On a good day it would be hard pressed to get up to 105.

Definitely felt like it started to top out, but I thought I read somewhere that it was capped at 115? Correct me if I'm wrong. But it definitely felt like the gas was cutting off
