New question here and let me explain, my car was tuned at 600 hp on e85 last winter and I'm using Denso two step colder spark plugs with I believe a .8 gap. Now that it's getting warmer my car is starting to sputter and pop during idle and to about 3000 rpm, under load spool up and boost the runs fine and pulls hard no popping or sputtering. It also seems to happen more during the day time when it's hot, no codes are showing and my wideband seems to be holding relatively steady. So I guess the question is can the e85 be acting differently with the spark plug in these hotter day or vice versa, should I lower the gap to .6 or raise it? Any advice would be appreciated and please ask me questions if you need more info!

2 steps colder is too cold for an e85 tune. I'm running over 700whp on 1 step colder.

Ok, I've never logged anything before, I guess I'll give it a try, I'm running both MAF and MAP hybrid with the Cobb ap.

Connect coob to car laptop to coob and play with logging data till you get it to work.

Ok well I just used the Cobb ap to log and I'm getting them ready to post, I did a few variations of logging from idle, idle with rev, 1234 gears normal driving, 4th gear at 3k rpm, 3rd gear at 3k rpm, 3rd gear at 2-2.5 rpm, and finally a wot pull from 123. I'll have it up in a few.

Working on it looks like is getting too much fuel at lower rpms.

Question E85 and Colorado Emissions Testing

I am about to move from Arkansas (a non-emissions testing state) to the Fort Collins area in Larimer County, CO. I have a 2011 STI hatchback w/ full COBB 3" TBE (w/ high flow cat), 44mm EWG setup, 1000cc injectors, and tuned on E85 w/ supporting mods.

There is no way my car is going to pass emissions testing at face value (would not even make it past the visual inspection), but I have heard Colorado has certain conditions which will allow you to be exempt.

They do visual inspection, sniff test, OBDII test, and exhaust pipe probe testing.

FFS, I thought we lived in a free country. You would think the hippies would love that my car runs on 85% renewable energy, but something tells me I'm going to have issues just the same.

Do any of you have any ideas, or experience trying to pass or exempt from Colorado emissions with a highly modded car?

-Josh

You should post in the CO regional forum, since your question is not necessarily E85-specific. Probably get better first-hand experience there.

That written, I have had no problems passing IL emissions testing (OBDII test) with a highly modded car.

I just got my '12 WRX tuned on E85 and talked to my tuner a bit about the winter blends (E70) which he said the car would richen up but he didn't really elaborate on if anything bad happens. I'm going to get a kit and start testing on fill ups but I'm just curious to what can happen if you were to have some spirited fun on the winter blend fuel?

I'm curious about this as well, obviously less hp but does this also mean the tune will be thrown off entirely and would it be dangerous for the car?

This is exactly why the ecu has long term fuel trims.
