Default Lots of wildlife on the roads lately...

Has anyone else noticed that there has been a lot of wildlife on the road lately both during the day and night? I mean, I am seeing a lot of deer crossing compared to usual in my commuting route as well as possums, raccoons, even gophers!

Case in point:
About 1 week ago on my way to work at about 11:00 am, I notice a lot of road kill on Route 69 before you get into New Haven and before the Merrit Parkway on/off ramps. I'm driving along and suddenly from the corner of my eye, I see a gopher looking animal jumps from the shoulder of the road and make a bee line to try to cross the road. I swerved as best I could and still hit the poor fella...

About 20 minutes ago today, driving home from a friend's house in Wolcott, I'm driving along Todd Road and there is this small fox looking animal curled up in the middle of my lane. It looked dead, as in dead as a door nail, dead as a rotting corpse dead etc... I can't go around it and straddle the yellow line because I see headlights approaching. So I decide that I would drive over the 'corpse' since it looked really low anyways. I drive over it and I hear and feel a thump through the floorboards of my car... I jump a mile high and look in the rear view and see that the 'fox' was running away. So it appears that the fox was trying to commit suicide as it stood up as I was passing over it!

So, the moral of the story, just be on the lookout for wildlife on the roads, My 2 encounters were with small creatures but deer or other large wildlife can be dangerous for you and your car's health!

-Jason

Cliffs: Lot's more road kill on the roads. I tried to not contribute but alas, I did anyhow

Frogs, Chipmunks and deer. I swear the chipmunks are planning something. That or they're competing in nature's X-Games. I almost hit 4 of them on my way to work the other day, and I have a 10 minute commute.

I see 10+ deer if I drive home late at night, on average, over the course of about 15 miles. I really need spy hunter like cannons for my car down here.

Lots of turkeys on the Merrit too. More than I'm used to seeing.

I work near a reservoir and we get whole herds of geese walking around the main road into the office park. I'd say "flocks" but I have yet to see one of the fat feathered fsckers gets it's lazy ass off the ground. They're pretty cheeky about wandering out into the middle of the road even with cars baring down on them. Amazingly, they don't seem to end up road pizza as often as I'd expect. I keep hoping some SUV driver will be talking on his cellphone at just the right time so as to end up with a few of them wrapped around his half-shafts....
