Default Hard shift on 99 legacy automatic

My 99 subaru seems to have a issue with shifting in the lower gears where the car jerks and it fills like the gears just pushes hard into place. it feels like a hard knock when it shifts. I am not sure whether this is common at all.

I had this problem with my Integra. The lower gears were grinding and eventually I lost my first two gears. Was a fun time, I was on a road trip in MA when all of a sudden, BAM my car wouldn't engage 1st gear. This eventually led to a new tranny install. Take it over to a tranny specialist and tell them what is going on, they should be able to let you know what's going on.

PS. If your tranny goes, swap in a manual so you won't have to deal with these issues as much. There are a lot of benefits to having a manuel. Well, unless you HAVE to keep it automatic for whatever reasons.
