Yesterday morning I started the car to go to church and no sooner than I started and moved off, the engine revs started to “beat down” like if the car wanted to cut-out and I even smelt petrol. However as I continued to drive the car the problem vanished.
This morning I started it and the same thing happened however I noticed that it only occurred initially when I eased the car forward and stopped. However as I continued to drive the car, the problem seemed to have vanished as I could drive in stop-and-go traffic without any incident. My question is, what could be the problem? I suspect a sticking IAC valve however any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are so many things that can cause that. An IAC is a good place to start, though. Search around and you should be able to find a procedure for cleaning it. I know I saw it in here, I just don't remember where, exactly.

I usually just get in and drive at about 50 km/h until the engine gets to its normal operating temperature and then I usually drive faster if I have to but I don't until the car is warmed up.
