Default DFW: Need to borrow factory service manual for 2000 Ford Focus

I need to borrow one from someone in the DFW area if anyone has access to one. My g/f's key cylinder met its maker a little while ago and we need to replace it. Anyone have access to one or have experience doing this sort of thing.

I've done it, its easy, if you can get the key to turn to position 1, then its all downhill from there. if you can't get it to position one, you have to drill it out.

My buddies focus has the same problem....it's a common occurance...like blown WRX trannies...yet nothing is ever done. its a poop lock design as well.

PM me with questions

Key has gotten to the point of non-entry into the cylinder. It's b0rked.

Where did you get instructions?

i found some instructions on the focus forum, but it said to drill. I found another one and it mentioned a pin that you push in so the cylinder slides out...but the pin will only depress if the cylinder is in position 1(or one click forward). IIRC correclty, I found one from the service manual, but it was little help. I had the idea, and just figured it out on the way.

take the bottom cover(piece by your knees), then take the bottom steering column cover off. On the bottom of the column by the cylinder housing, towards the driver, you will see a little hole. push a screw driver, or allen key, or something in there, you may get lucky and the cylinder will slide out. if not, keep trying to wiggle and tweak the cylinder so the key will go in. I had to do that on my buddies to get it to turn. if you work it enough, are paitient, and give it time, you will get luck.

the other solition is to use a 3/8 drill bit into the center of the lock, which will remove the tumblers and other stuff so you can pull it out.

you will have to re-key the new cylinder, which is pretty easy per the instructions in the box.

If you where in houston, I'd lend a hand.

if you get it, sell the car ASAP and get something else.

Thanks for the help. The car is almost paid off, and it will go as soon as that happens.

Pffft, going to have to drill today. I hate Fords.

I think I am going to leave the tumblers out this time. Any key should do. I don't think we'd mind if someone stole the car. *cough*please*cough*.

Wow, that sucked. Broke one 3/32" titanium drill bit because I was drilling at an off-angle. Took a big 1/2" bit to get the cylinder innards out. Shavings everywhere. It really is a good idea to disconnect the battery beforehand.

The new cylinder is a new design, hopefully it won't break before the car gets sold.
