The Subaru SVX...I wanted one so bad at one time. I think it's a beautiful machine - goofy windows and all. I had almost forgotten about it, but now not one, but TWO have moved into my neighborhood in the last month! Damn that's a nice car!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my RS, but this brings back memories. I guess I'll have to try and find a used one somewhere! ![]() ~Paul |

I am talking performance numbers and feel, it doesn't feel as nimble as an RS, its hideous ( IMO ) and its pretty slow, check its numbers, not too impressive for a 6.

I understand a dream car or one you lust after doesn't need to be a high peformer, I know you all will laught but back in the eightys I thought it would be cool to own one of those pointy nosed subaru XT6 ??? I think that was what they were called. But my dream car is still a lifted BRAT on 35" haha

I've read the performance stats, and I understand that it's not nearly as nimble as the Impreza - there's a reason why the SVX went out after 1997, and the RS came in in 1998
![]() Also, when I was first looking at one, my parents Legacy wagon was just totalled and they replaced it with a...Saturn SL1. ugh. But I love the fact that it's a lot more luxury than my Impreza. I liked SubieGal's "street cruisin machine" description! exactly how I feel. So, in a year or two, I'll get a latter-year SVX, tranny swap for a manual, and turbocharge it. Then I'll have a Porsche - albeit a 3600 lb Porsche Yeah, right. My fiancee thinks their ugly, too. I can dream, can't I?Thanks for sticking up for me, SubieGal! ~Paul |

The XT-6... now THAT was a car! I really miss mine. It had gadgets galore, and it looked even more like a spaceship inside then the outside.
-Steve www.lustreking.com ps, I think the SVX is gorgeous |

Come over to Tahoe, I see so many I stopped noticing them. I think there were three for sale in the paper on Sunday. Still a nice cruiser.

There is a nice long term review in an old C&D that I have, it was favorably compared to the SC300. It's not fast off the line but above 70-80 mph it really gets going. They say the '92's (pre-limiter) can hit 150+, I'm not going to be the one to check that out but...
I see few of any Sube in SC, let alone SVX's... the few I see make me cry (pimped out with dashmats, windshield banners that say "I'm 'bout it", etc... Trivia: the wheels are supposed to look "backwards", supposedly they are designed that way for airflow to the brakes. Lots of people flip them to the other side of the car so they look right. You can mark yourself as SVX 3l33t if you call someone out on this. The windows are a great icebreaker at the Wendy's drive through. Overall a great car but watch out for that glass tranny. cheers, mbs '92 SVX pearl/black (best SVX color) '00 mr2 |

Hey, I believe Peter Hadfield is looking for a good home for his SVX over on the Northwest forum. He's asking $6500. I'm not sure what year or color it is, though.

I was a very happy guy up until a few weeks ago. I was the owner of a 1995 SVX LSi and a 2002 Impreza WRX for about a month. I just sold the SVX because I just bought the WRX. But I did alternate between the two every few days and they are a great complement to each other.
I have to say that the SVX is a car that is in a completely different league that the Impreza and any other Subaru. It is made as nicely as a Lexus or BMW and very meticulously put together. It is a low production hand made vehicle. If you think about it there are only 25000 SVX world wide, made over a period of seven years; an average of 72 SVX's made per week. So far the new Impreza has exceeded the amount of SVX's made in less than one year. The SVX is very solid and fast, with a precision that is remarkable. It may not be the fastest Subaru but it is damn quick for a 3600 pound car. And no other Subaru feels as stable at 80-90mph on the road, period. It is a high perfomance sophisticated luxury GT car like a Lexus Coupe, Porsche 928, Mitsubishi 3000GT, almost a BMW 840i, etc. I hear of people wanting to drop a manual tranny into it, put on 18" wheels and slam it to the asphalt and wonder why? It is not the car to do that type of modification. It really is a beautiful car to drive, and to be appreciated for its ambitious design and state of the art engineering.(Why mess with it??) It is one of the best cars I have ever driven. And as fun as the WRX is to drive, it is no SVX in terms of build quality and execution. The reason why I got rid if it for the WRX is that I wanted a car that I can have fun with and not worry about so much. The SVX is rare and pricey to fix. I have a warranty on the WRX!!! |

There is a rumor that Subaru will be releasing an all new SVX in 2003. I don't know if there is any truth to it, however I did come across it on I think the Motor Trend web site, under Subaru. The article talked about how it will be as stylish as the Audi TT, a possible 6-cyl, and AWD.
Subaru you can put me down for one![]() |

Yeah, I heard a rumour like that too!
My version of the rumour had Subaru reviving the SVX name in the form of a roadster, with it's sights set squarely on competition such as the Audi TT or even the Porsche Boxster. Can anyone else substantiate or dispel this rumour? Personally, I'd be in line to put a deposit down as well -- that and for a B4 RSK if it ever makes it this side of the Pacific... Kelvin |

Could anyone post pics of the interior, dash etc, the engine bay and other spots for us to see? I would really like to see what the inside looks like.
BTW: I love the way the SVX looks! |

The SVX is one of THE smoothest vehicles that I have driven. Yes, it is definetly not as nimble as my RS, but its purpose is completely different than the Impreza! It's smooth and stable and once it gets up and going, it pulls forever!! I agree 110% with what Subie Gal said about it. Too bad the tranny is so fradgile!

In saying that the SVX doesnt handle well remember that (well i think anyway) its the widest, longest, heaviest subaru car ever made.
Personally I want an XT6 2.7liter or a EJ20 TT fitted to one of those newer dual range trannys (yes they exist, my mechanic was putting one in a 90 legacy afew days ago!) put into in my GL now.... he he it would be a MAJOR sleeper I'm sure I could embarass my share of hondas with it. I just need the $$ to do it With anywhere between 150-276? HP It would be a major improvement over my current estimated 94 HP. Of course I could just sell the car and get a SVX, I love em personally. Although the XT6 is available with a stick... hmmm |

I've only seen one in South Carolina, and it was blue/teal colored and in a very sad state of disrepair... taped up windows, really dirty, paint scratches...
I've seen it twice but have never been able to track the owner down to tell him to wash his damn car. |
