Question silicone hoses for 2.5L NA?

this fall i'll be doing a re-fresh of the coolant system on my 98 legacy outback before winter sets in, and installing a block heater, new thermostat, and rad hoses.

im wondering if silicone hoses last longer than rubber hoses (i assume they do)

are silicone radiator hoses available for the EJ25 phase 1 motors?

subaru being subaru i would think that any of the 2.5 litre motors and maybe even the smaller motors would use the same hoses. meaning the 2.5RS would share the hoses of the 2.5 outback, or the 2.5 STI would share the hoses as well.

in short, can i get silicone hoses that wil fit?

Go to Raretrick.com - they offer both Cusco and Samco silicone hoses for the US GC.

Based on pictures I've seen, the radiators and associated hoses are different on the Phase II engines. I think if you get a '98 RS set you'd be good to go. I'd definitely take a look at pictures and compare to my own car before I went buyin' anything.

Edit: I know on our cars the upper radiator hose connects to the passenger side of the radiator. On some cars (and I think it's the SOHC cars, but it may be the WRXs I'm thinking of) the upper hose is in the middle.

Looking at www.raretrick.com they have the Samco kit for $99, which ain't bad. The Cusco ones are $160-sumthin', which is a bit much for my taste.

The Cusco set doesn't appear to be made for the RS's just the Samco hoses. And the picture is of a WRX one or some other car. There is no posted picture for the samco RS hose set.

cheers

How did the Cusco one not work? I always see them advertised various places, but then they say "turbo applications only". I'm just curious how it doesn't fit.

I think that's just a generic Samco photo, those look more like air intake/intercooler hoses than radiator hoses. As for the Cusco hoses, they list a GC8 application, but who knows for what radiator arrangement. At least the Samco ones specifically say "2.5RS", which gives me a warm fuzzy.

Oh, and that website has entirely too many cool JDM toys that I've never seen before.

Yeah that site rocks for obscure stuff that you don't usually see. When It said GC8... That to me says WRX GC8. Cusco makes a lot of stuff for for the GC and GM chassis but a lot of it is like they made it for the WRX GC and some of it happens to fit the GC6 too. At least thats my experience with cusco products and I have a few.

I want the Cusco one but would likely get the Samco for fear of the Cusco not fitting.

cheers

Samco's home (UK) website that Imprezanize linked doesn't show the GC8 2.5RS kit, but if you look at one of their distributors www.sporthoses.com (I didn't check any of the others, just the first one they listed at samcosport.com) they do show it. Bummer that's only a 2-piece, though, whereas the WRX kit replaces all the heater hoses and everything.

I got them from www.sporthoses.com , which is actually a place called Brit's. Nice people, had the GC8 hose set (which is just upper and lower radiator hose) in stock. Also sold me some good hose clamps from a company called ABA - http://www.abaofamerica.com/ . Home Depot had stainless clamps that would fit up to 1-1/2" (too small), and then the next size was up to 2-3/4" (which ends up giving you a huge "tail" once it's tightened down). The ABA ones I got are 1-3/4" (perfect size), have the rolled edges so they won't cut into the hoses, and the screw engagement is definitely sturdier/more secure than "normal" clamps I've seen.

I'm getting ready to do my 105k maintenance, any sources for a 2002 2.5 SOHC radiator hose kit? I've looked at sporthoses and sent them an email, raretrick seems to be out of business.
