Impreza GC8 Bought '05 LGT 17"s, now missing 16"s. OZ/Speedline... I must be crazy?!

Hi.

So, I put some '05 LGT wheels on my '00 GC6. Now, don't get me wrong, I *do* like them... they look great, and don't have much of a thief attraction since they're OE, but...

...I'm sort of missing 16"s. I still have my OE six-spokers for winter time now (formerly had 15" steelies for winter, 16"s for summer, but WRX rotors and H6 rears, coming soon, disallow them), but I'm sort of missing the smaller diameter.

Mind you, the LGT wheels look more like 18"s on a GC/GM/GF, I think because of the outer "lip" style:

My car

I run Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S (215/45-17) on these, and Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi (205/50-16) on my OEs.

I really must be nuts. Most Impreza owners love 17"s... Legacy folks, too. Some don't, namely the autocross and rally/gravel crowd, but for the street... they're great.
Right?

I'm thinking they'll look less enormous when I get my sidesills painted white, and put on my Ver.6 rear spats, and the STi aero guards.

But something about an OZ or Speedline 16" is sounding....... tempting. A +0 from 205/50-16 might work really well....

I'm definitely nuts. Right?

Those do look huge. But they look good. I wouldn't worry about it, either way the car is a winner.

I think they look really sharp on there vs. the stockers ... I'd keep em', but you gotta do what works for you in the end ... Your opinion is the only one that matters ...

BTW, what’s the weight on those wheels … Did you check them prior to mounting tires on them?

No I didn't... but they're OE wheels, and Subaru OE wheels usually end up being pretty lightweight...

Thanks guys. Like I said, I really *do* like them...... I dunno, I'm just a whackjob, that's all.

Thanks!

I love the car too, but it still needs lots of work. The coupe spoiler helped... but I still badly need a Ver6 front grille. And my mudflaps are old and getting bent... need to mount my Ver6/aero guard stuff. Get a front lip, too.

I had some 22B vents, they were nice, but they were knock-offs and I didn't like the fitment so much. Also needed the money at the time so I sold them.

Hey there's that famous flat black pic. How's it goin,' Jaxx?

Yeah I really want to paint that stuff, but the whole car needs a new paintjob... I feel like it'd be a waste of money to do it twice. Might just mount the spats and guards in black, for a while.

Don't worry, some of take longer to decide what tires they like...

Yup, I owned them all, I still have the stock, LGT, and STi wheels.

I think the Legacy wheels look very nice on the new WRX

I have had 14, 15, 16, and 17" wheels on my gf wagon. there's too much side wall on the 14" wheels(70 profile) and the 45 profile tyres on the 17" can be a little trying on rough pavement.

i have found my 16" wheel to be very good all around wheels. i'm on the 15" currently as the new brake will kill my ability to use the steelies and there some road construction on the way to work.

I totally agree, they are my favorite. I don't like the BBS wheels at all, they are not very attractive and a pain in the butt to clean, but they are light, forged, and have the right offset to let me run 225s on a wagon with no problems.
I'll keep them until someone offers a set of SSR compititions in 17X7.5 to me as an even swap (in the right color of course).

I'm not holding my breath.

Oh alright I'll calm down.

The 45-series is rough, but I don't find it that bad. When I switched to 50-series 16"s, I felt that was a really rough transition. I made the move because the 50s are standard for Euro sizing... and heard they actually had a more accurate speedo reading than 55-series OEs.

Now, I wanted 40-series 17"s as that's a proper +1, but after I ordered the tires from TireRack, Luke told me that the load bearing is too low (83W I think). The 45-series are 87W I believe.
The 40s looked paper thin for a sidewall, but I guess it still irks me a bit that my 17"s are taller than my 16"s.

Thanks man.

I think it's just the lack of V6 underpinnings, and paint. It's just an optical illusion. I stared at them for about five minutes yesterday and I think that's what's really bugging me. The lack of that stuff doesn't become as apparent, until the 16"s are shod.

I've no idea why!
