Default exhausts more tidbits

well went out to talk to my friends tonight.. and yes the cops showed up. and talked to us....
i asked if i put a silencer in the pipe so it would be quiet if it was legal the answer is...! NO
i specifically asked if i put a silencer in it and it was as quiet as stock if i could have it...NO i then proceeded to ask why if the car is as quiet as it was stock, why couldnt we have it. he said as i said before, "you cant have anymodified exhaust on your car"
"why dont you go buy another type of car"
i was then told if the car is lowed, lowered period that the cops would ticket you.
to add to it. i and others were told that if we were in a parking lot that had the no trespassing from the manager we would be arrested.. even if it wasnt posted..... wow. what power they have.
the kicker is the exhaust can or does anyone know exactly what is up with this. this is as i have been saying ridiculous. we cant do anything to our own cars.... someone.. with info that confirms or denys this crap?
if you dont have anything constructive to say dont post it.!! ***
but i figured that most of the imprezas here except a few have performance exhaust.. so it affects you even if you might be older than me. etc.
larry what do you think about that? i forgot to ask specifically how they determine whether or not its louder than stock. there were cops everywere i lost my focus. as usuall damn how can they dictate what we do to OUR PROPERTY? i mean the cop harleys i have heard are as loud or louder than the cars i roll with and these are cops.... are they the only ones who can modify their rides.??

Here are the CO statutes on mufflers and suspension:

42-4-225 - Mufflers - prevention of noise. (http://64.78.178.125/cgi-dos/statdsp...P&doc=42-4-225)

No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all of the requirements of this section.

(2) A muffler is a device consisting of a series of chamber or baffle plates or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and effective in reducing noise.

(3) Any person who violates subsection (1) of this section commits a class B traffic infraction.

Nothing contained in this section shall prevent the installation of manufactured heavy duty equipment to include shock absorbers and overload springs, nor shall anything contained in this section prevent a person from operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with normal wear of the suspension system if normal wear shall not affect the control of the vehicle.
(2) This section shall not apply to motor vehicles designed or modified primarily for off-highway racing purposes, and such motor vehicles may be lawfully towed on the highways of this state.

(3) Any person who violates any provision of this section commits a class 2 misdemeanor traffic offense.

Here is a link for the infractions: (http://64.78.178.125/cgi-dos/statdsp...&doc=42-4-1701)

Hehehe. You do realize that the cops only enforce the laws, they don't make them. I think you really should be directing your anger at the state and local legislators. Maybe you and your friends could picket in front of the capitol building?

Hehe, I hate cops- and I don't care who on this board is one, or who has a good friend that's a cop, I HATE THEM... And until I see them doing somthing worthwhile, or they help me in some way, I will never change my attitude.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, I always wondered- with going with the CO exhaust and susp. laws- they say they must be in accordance with the manufacturers original design, etc., etc. Well, what about JDM items? I know Japanese cars don't apply to America, but if Subaru is the manufacturer of your Impreza and you have a P1 suspension that lowers the car- isn't that the manufacturers original design? Obviously, that would never hold any clout in a court or anything, but it's something I've thought about. Also, what about the sport muffler you can buy from the Sube dealer? I'm sure it's louder than stock, I wonder what the CO Springs "officers of the law" would say about that??

i can tell you what he would say. because i have asked and been told. " i can see its modified thats all i need to ticket you!" **insert terrible hick attitude.** i asked if i silenced it to were it emitted no sound at all if i could use it. he replyed after a long pause..." its still illegal" he didnt say anything after that..??? wthell?
96L i dont like most cops but i know we need them. for instance, today i saw a set of two motorcycle cops at a intersection..austinbluffs to be exact. one saw a car run a red light and hit his lights and went flying infront of three lanes of cars moving! damn near got his A$$ run over and didnt care. almost caused a rear end pile up..... thats the cops i dislike! wish i had my vid camera.
