Default Test Pipe Question

Does the addition of a test pipe or removal of the cats greatly change the sound of the car? I know it will make it louder, but will it sound worse (aka kill the boxer sound)? Thanks.

I've only heard a few with completely catless systems. Yes, louder, but no, to me, the boxer sound is still quite there. Depends on the header system as well. the EL's will change the sound a bit though. Hope that helped.

I've got a 2.25" catless testpipe. I put it on once for a few days. And it came off immediately due to the sound.

I have borla headers with a 2.25" unresonated midpipe welded to a WRX axleback. Stock cats and I love the sound. However when I put the testpipe on it dramatically increased the sound and the sound became very tinny and raspy. So much that my GF would not ride in the car.

Now you will definitely feel a gain when accelerating above 3500-4000rpms. I didn't notice any low end loss. But I've got to figure out how to muffle the sound before I dare put it back on.

GL!

i have a 2.25" testpipe on now with borla headers and custom midpipe 2.25 with a 18" resonator and scoobysport exhaust. I love it! the resonator is the big key in making it sound just right. past 4k is the only time you can tell im catless and even then its not too loud.

I have Borla headers, 2 1/4" test pipe w/ o2 sensor ports, 2 1/4 piping to a 2.5" STi Axle back muffler.

SOUNDS LIKE CRAP! I am buying new CATS as soon as I have an extra $571. It sounded way better with the cats on with the same setup. my old cats took a dump on me. They sounded like there were a bunch of nuts and bolt rattling around in there. Not much improvement with the test pipe.

BUT..........

I have to admit, I felt a big power difference when the cats were removed. I'de say an easy 5-10 horsepower to the wheels. I was very supprised.

Resonator helps tons... sounds a bit raspier otherwise. There's a couple nice high flow cats out there anyways... no reason to delete those unless you have to for some reason

Yep. Same experience here. It really does sound like a hacking crotch-rocket on crack, and that was not even giving it much gas. Maybe 25-50% throttle.

Maybe a resonator will work a bit. I've been thinking about getting one added.

AWD2.5-does your exhaust ever drone? Or would that mainly occur in the upper rpms?
