Unhappy So, 2006 is the end of the Baja

Too bad, I'd like to see this goofy little thing hang a round a few more years, I may have to trade my 03 in on a 2006 turbo model just so I get a new one before they're gone.

I picked up the '06 brochure today from the dealer - 2006 will only 3 colors available, Obsidian Black, Silver Metallic and Regal Blue. If you want a color other than those, pickup a left over '05 - my particular dealer had several of each color.

still no leather and or heated seats for the turbo 5spd manual.

Yeah, I'm bummed out about this also. I love my wifes 05 Sport and would love to add a 2nd one to the garage in 07-08 when I retire the 02 WRX wagon to weekend track duty, but Subaru has crushed all my hopes on that one. I'll have to settle for an outback or Forester (No Turbo due to premium gas).

I went by a dealer and picked up the 2006 brochure too.
I think the blue offered is Atlantic blue - a bit lighter with more metal flake than the regal blue.

cars101 is a web site that is really good for detailing Subaru model changes.

I am on the fence as to which color I want. I love Atlantic blue, but that garnet red is eye catching and I'll need to grab a leftover 2005 for that one.

WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!Thats not fair, taking our trucklet away, the morons. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Maybe they will see the light, and come out with another one in a few years. I just can't beleive they won't advertise, and work on it some more. They don't even try at all. Mike

Can somebody confirm the colors available for 2006 ?
There seems to be a question as to which BLUE will still be available.

If you have a 2006 brochure, please let us know which colors are available.

Default The few the proud, the Baja owners.

Oh well, it looks like another "Brat" situation. I guess we will be the lucky few who have owned a extinct vehicle. At least we have relived a blast from the past. And the Baja is a cool car to have cause it's not like a 100,000 have been made like a Ford F150 or a PT Cruiser. Every corner I drive by I see a Ugly Ford or PT Cruiser. They can't say that about the Baja.
Live long and prosper...

The brat situation is a somewhat correct analogy. The brat was made much longer and I believe it sold in many more countries. I was in Israel in the early 90's and I saw fairly new Brat's.

When I was in high school I had always wanted a Brat. I told my friends I was going to sit them in those silly booster seats in the back. Finally after college in 87 when my Plymouth became exceptionally unreliable and I had sufficient funds, I ordered a new one. A white and then a gray arrived to our shores. I declined both since I did not fancy the colors. Then a blue arrived so I said yes - I'll take it. A weeks later the dealer told me sorry - it went to another dealership to replace a woman's new Brat that was recently totaled. NO more Brat's seemed to appear after that. So I relented and spent 10 happy years with a 4wd GL Hatchback - the Brat's more plain sibling. If I want my new Baja I will have to act within the next year or so or I'll have to settle for and Outback

Is the Bajaís demise an absolutely, positively, documented fact? It ticks me off that I now see more Tribeca commercials in a couple of hours than Iíve ever seen for the Baja.

Here's the offical word...

"Subaru plans to build about 36,000 Tribecas each year at its plant in West Lafayette, Ind. The plant currently builds about 100,000 Legacy/Outback models each year, and will add a small number of Tribeca-derived Saab 9-6X SUVs within the next year, leaving the factory still with capacity to produce more models. One of them will not be the Baja, however; Subaru has decided to pull the plug on the truck-bedded ute after the 2006 model year, in part because modifying the vehicle for smart-airbag technology would not pay. As for Subaru's compact Impreza model, execs say the vehicle will be freshened this August for the 2006 model year. A full model change occurs in 2007, and at that time it's likely the Impreza will get a new name more fitting with the rest of the vehicles in the lineup. -Marty Padgett"

I'll hang onto mine for a long time-but when it comes time for a new DD, it won't be a subie-Don't want a wagon or a minivan, so I'll be going to where I came from: Ford. Maybe Jeep-that new pickup caught my attention, but I'll have to see it in person-and it better not be a mopar cross breed either, or forget it. Might even keep the Baja around after it's DD status is up, throw a turbo on there, retrofit a sport shift and go auto xing it on weekends!

They never pushed the BAJA, to sell it.
I love my BAJA Turbo and if something bad would happen to it. I would buy another one in a blink!

I'm seriously debating trading my 03 in for an 06 Turbo model, but I fear my trade in won't be worth diddly due to them being discontinued...but if they can cut a super deal on a new one near the end of em....hmmmm
