Default Big Thanks to Tire Rack

I just did my first business with Tire Rack and they are great!!! I ordered my wheels and tires late Sun. night, they were shipped on Mon., arrived at their recommended installer on Tues p.m., and were installed this (Wed.) morning. Service just doesn't get any better than that. There was so much darn traffic today that I haven't really had a chance to see how they handle with spirited cornering, but they already seem to be a vast improvement over the stockers. I love the way that they look and have gotten compliments from everyone at work that has seen them. BTW, they are silver Kazera KZ-V's with a machined lip wrapped in Avon Tech 550 A/S 225/45/17 tires. It only took me a year and reading about 10,000 tire and wheel threads to make up my mind.

Hey Luke:

It was a pleasure doing business with you; don't forget to put up my compliments about your recommended installer Wise Automotive in Timonium, MD. Great guys, great service, and they scheduled me right away with just about no notice on my part. My friend at work says the Kazera's make my car look "more expensive"; not really sure what he means by that, but I'll take it as a compliment.

Pictures will be up soon; my dumba-- brought my digicam to work to take some photos and I forgot to take the memory card out of my card reader at home. It's been a crazy week; I'm running back and forth between two houses and this has only exacerbated my usual forgetfulness.

Here you go; for some reason the posting rules are saying that I can't send attachments. Hopefully this link will work:

The photos were taken in a rush as I was trying to catch my train to work, so they are not the greatest. Sorry that StellaBlue is so dirty; she really needs a bath.

is the silver a flat/satin finish or is it glossy at all?
I know the KZ-A wheels have no gloss in the paint or at least in the pictures I have seen they appear to be a satin finish. I was just wondering if the KZ-V is the same. They are very nice looking wheels anyway. I like them alot

Thanks for the compliment; I saw almost the identical design, but in a five-spoke rather than six spoke configuration, on a Jag (not sure what model) and a BMW 7-series, so I figure that I am in good company. The finish is flat/satin and not at all glossy. It's hard to describe, but it does look a little sparkly or metallic when you get up close. However, the metallic-type look is pretty subtle. The machined lip is somewhat shiny but not too bling. The KZ-Vs come in chrome but that's not my style; also they are more expensive that way. As I mentioned above, it took me a really long time to decide, but I am thrilled with my choice of the wheels and tires, especially the improvement in handling over the RE92s. I had narrowed my choices down to the Kazeras and the Rota SDRs, but am happy that I went with the less common choice; it seems like almost everyone who is looking for more of a budget-type wheel goes with the Rotas (which are a good choice), but I like to be different.

Hi gr8fuldave,

I'm looking at getting Avon tires too for my SSR Competitions. The Yoko ES100's that I have on there have one of the worst road noise issues I've ever dealt with. How's the road noise on the M550 and why did you go with those over the 500 (I think they're the summer only tires)?

I'm not sure if I'm qualified to give a really good evaluation of the 550s since these are the first 17" tires that I've ever owned and I have nothing to compare them to. Obviously they are a vast improvement over the RE92s and I think that the noise is not too loud. However, I think that a large part of the noise issue has to do with the WRX; IMHO the WRX has lousy insulation, especially compared to cars like the G20 that I've owned. I went with an all-season tire because of where I live; I imagine I see quite a bit more snow that you do. Also, I didn't want to be bothered with the cost or trouble of switching tires in the winter. Finally, I've decided to cool it with the speed and am even selling my radar detector, so having real high performance-type summer tires was not a priority for me.

I hope this helped somewhat, but it's tough for me to compare the Avons when I have nothing of comparable size to stack them up against.
