Legacy Hazard problem

I was doing an interior color change and realize my hazard switch light is off, I pulled it out yesterday and I couldnt get the old bulb out. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it out or know if I can even get a new one or if I would need a whole new switch?

I used chewing gum one time to get some of those damn bulbs out. The engineer that designed them needs to be shot in the foot, punched in the nose, and kicked in the family jewels. Not sure about the hazard switch, but if you can find a bulb that comes out...then it must be do-able.

The same thing goes for the lights in the switches, same bad design. Whats weird is those you can take out but they dont sell a replacement for them. So I had to steal one out of my cruise control since I never use it. I love a lot of things about Subaru but some are just DUMB.

Luckily(I guess), most of the switches in subaru's are made and designed by Nissan. Stupid Nissan. Yay Subaru!

On the subject of burned out lights, the entire a/c panel on my '96 has been burned out since I got it (with the exception of the LED's of course), but I'll be monkey's uncle if I can find a good way to get it off other than pulling out the entire dash. I've memorized the layout, so it's not much trouble at night to use. I can live without it being lit up if there's no simple way to do it.

Yes, there is an Easy way. Pulling the dash won't help you at all because the HVAC Ducts run right behind the AC Mode Panel. There is 8 screws, and you can pull the panel out itself. There is 3 light bulbs that control all of the lighting on that panel. If you need pics on how to do it, I'll take some and make a walk through tomorrow.

Good going hijacking me thread there is a pretty good how to over at scooby mods http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91 that should help you. And one thing that made it easier for me was to unhook the fan controll cable at the other end, its under the glovebox all the way in the center. Once you have the controls out you should be able to see where it goes and its fairly easy to disconnect. You need to unclip it from the metal clip and the just slide it off of the plastic post. Hmmmm now I think I am going to have to take pictures of it to explain.

Thanks for the info, I've been trying to figure out how that plastic cover comes off. The Haynes manual really does not do a good job of explaining (or illustrating) it.

Just a small update to this. The Radio Shack bulbs mentioned in the thread that NickLippert linked to are Radio Shack catalog number 272-1092. I don't know if the bulbs have changed since that post was made, but they're slightly smaller than the factory bulbs. They still seem to work just fine (althought the little green rubber thing that covers the bulb will either sit half off the bulb or kind of bunched up). It's not all that difficult to remove the bulbs from the plastic bases and replace them. Only slightly more complicated than changing a christmas tree bulb.

I got all three bulbs changed out and they all seem to be working fine. It is *much* easier to remove the temperature control cable from the fan box than from the controls.
