Default Proper use of Me and I

Question for all you grammar nazis

What is the "correct" statement out of the two:

My friend and me.
My friend and I.

If possible, can you post links (or information otherwise) that can prove which is correct (or more appropriate) and why?

"and I" is correct, though i beleive there is an instance when it is permissable to use "and me".

Isn't that first one incorrect? It would be appropriate to reply "I am here", therefore wouldn't you say "My Friend and I"?

The way that I learned it was: say the sentence without the "blank and" part...if you say "me" or "I" that is what you use.
Examples:

Joe and I went to the store....I went to the store.

They like Joe and me...They like me.

I hope this makes sense.

yeah. Me is a reflexive pronoun where as I is a proper pronoun, so you have different rules of usage.

Those who failed to answer "BOTH" have no business calling themselves a grammar nazi. It depends purely if the phrase "my friend and ___" is the subject or object, or object of a prepositional clause.

Correct:
My friend and I went to the bar.
The bar kicked out my friend and me.
This six-pack is for my friend and me.

Incorrect:
My friend and me went to the bar.
The bar kicked out my friend and I.
This six-pack is for my friend and I.

The easy way to remember which to use (me or I), is to take the other people and the "and" out of it. Would you say "Me went to the bar" or "I went to the bar"? Likewise, would you say: "This six-pack is for I". No.

Posessive:your and their ie: Your WXR and their minivan.

Contractions: you're - you are , they 're - they are

"There" is a noun, a place. They're there.

Beat me to it

The short answer is: get rid of the "friend and" bit, figure out of "me" or "I" would make sense in the sentence. Then you have your answer.

Yep.

Not all that difficult if you think about it. I'm sure I mess it up on occasion, though.
