Default Shaft Play

What exactly is shaft play? How exactly do I check for it? I was pulling up and down on the bolt that goes to the wheel. It moves slightly. I can also move the bolt slightly to the side. I just bought a 20g from this effing snake a$% and it is moving. How do you go about trying to get your money back from someone who jerks you?

Umm, i'm no expert but i have seen a couple hundred broken turbo's off trucks. Shaft play should be up and down slightly but there should be no movement to the side cause the blades could touch the housing and go kaboom. If its a used turbo your probably screwed. Could probably have it rebuilt though

^^Yeah a little movement up and down is normal, side to side = bad. Did you get it from someone local? Ebay? You could send it to Deadbolt to find out for sure what's up with it, and I'm pretty sure a 20G is rebuildable.
