Default Will STi Group-N Strut Top Mounts help eliminate clunking on AGX strut?

Right rear strut has been making this clunking noise since the day of installation. Since then I had tried replacing tophat with OEM one, which eliminated the clunking for about 2000 miles. Since then the noise has come back...

I am debating whether I should get a pair of STi Group-N Strut Top Mounts from gruppe-s.com for $160 shipped.

This noise is just driving me crazy so that I'd rather just drive Matrix.

What do you guys think? will it help or make it worse?

Thanks,
Tim

When you put on the suspension did you change the 17mm nut that connects the strut to the top hat or did you reuse your old one?

It is most likely that nut. They are self locking nuts, if they are used once you cannot reuse them they will not lock and will loosen. Once it loosens a little that clunk will become louder and louder.

Goto subaru buy all 4 nuts, then goto home depot and buy 4 7/8 inch lock washers. Use the lock washers as and the new nuts sound should go away.

Aren't nuts used on AGX different from ones used on OEM strut? also, what's the correct orientation of the washer? should side with bigger diameter facing up or down? I believe nuts that came with AGX is coated with gold if I remember correctly...

I swapped springs a couple weeks ago and reused the nut. (none of the spring install guides I saw mentioned replacing it.) If I want to put a new one on is it better to replace it with the suspension unloaded, or with the car on the ground, or does it not matter?

Will you be able to get proper torque on it without the strut spinning?

This is what I'm going to do. I am going to take off a rear seat and make access to self locking nut available. I will unbolt it and try to replace it with new self locking nut without taking strut apart from the car. Not sure if this method will work, but I see why not...

Question

The KYB should have there own nuts. just put some locktite on them when you tq them down so they won't back off.

Default oh ya

I'm pretty sure the KYB nuts are bigger than the stock ones so you won't be able to buy them at the dealership. unless they changed them on the newer models.

Yes, KYB stuts have their own nuts which are bigger. I do not recall seeing on a manual that you need to replace it eveytime strut is disassembled. I will try using locktite and see what happens...

What do you guys think of my method of removing three nuts at the top and make top strut nut accessible from the not without removing the strut? Would this work nicely?

I just don't want to get another alignment done again.

I disassembled the strut today. Found out that there was no washer in there... I went to Lowe's to get a washer and put everything back. Also, I put a drop of locktite (med. strength)...
