Default Tribute: Subaru W"R/C" 2001 Project (Pics/Vid) [56k=go hide under a rock]

This project includes two (okay, three!) of my most favorite things -- R/C, Subaru's, and WRC. I thought I'd do a tribute to each of those things.

Throughout this project, I will post pics...then at the end, a movie...in the dirt!

Start Date: 7/11/05
End Date (Hopefully): 7/21/05

So far:
AE TC3 Chassis (4WD Shaft-Drive)
Novak Cyclone C2 Speed Controller
Trinity P2K Pro 27x1 Stock Motor
KO Helios Computer Radio System

List of upgrades coming:
AE TC3 Rally Conversion Kit
HPI Pirelli Rally Tires
HPI '04 STi BBS' style 10 spoke Wheels
HPI Subaru WRC '01 Replica Rally Body
Trinity D6 10x2 Mod Motor
HPI 'WRC Tarmac" style 10 spoke Wheels
HPI Yokohama Advan Tarmac tires
AE Graphite Wheel Hubs
Maybe Carbon Fiber goodies?

What custom mods I have already done:
Mudflaps
Electronics Radio Box (scrapped for better enclosure later on)

Pics from "So Far" (ignore the dish wheels):

done with the main chassis. Tested it outside and looks like it runs in the mid 40mph range to low 50mph range (on freshly charged battery packs). But I'll gear it for dirt later on for more acceleration

I also painted the tarmac wheels. I had to mask them off since these are already mounted and I didn't feel like un-glueing them.

Tires/Wheels masked off:

Masking Tape Removed:

Looks pretty clean to me. Masking off all four front and back took around 30min.

Nice whip!

I have a very simaler set up. I love how tight your radio gear is... very slick!

Your body work neads a little love. i would sugest looking at the older HPI scooby body (2 door) or the tamia. I know they have some pre cut holes, but IMHO its wotht the trade off....

Instead of the flaps I use an HPI EP rally under body which I modified a little to cover the chasie. Does a good job of keeping the dirt out.

I mostly use mine in the street infront of the house. Rallying up and down the street and side walk. Im running a Reedt Ti 13t and a Trinity copper head.

Those are so cool! If you guys don't mind me asking, where can I find more information on the type of car you're using and where you purchased them?

Mine was a Associated Factory team electric kit

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXWL81&P=7

and a rally conversion

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXVZ01&P=7

and some sweet ruber like this

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCYT2&P=7

and a body

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXN223&P=7

Then youll need some running gear, radio, ESC motor and batteries. Honestly, to do it right your looking at like 400-500 easy. There are some Tamyia RTR electric WRC imprezas that look good, but wont have near the performance of flexability as mine and the OP cars. the TC3 is a world class electric race car.

Anyways, Tower is a good place for new gear, and ebay can really save you big money.

BTW: the trick with wheel wells is to set the body up before you paint. Also, use a dremel to smooth out the wells and the trim so that its slick...then paint.

Thanks for the comments.

Nice to see you here TopKatz. I remember you from RCZone and the old HPI forums. You had that nice tricked out RS43 Type SS with the CVEC pipe.

Pakin: I really like that Tamiya body. Maybe I'll buy that as my next one!
