Question 2006 Legacy GT

I'm not sure if I am misunderstanding this, or is it true the 2006 GT will not be available in cloth.

That's correct, it will only be available in metal. The cloth cars tend to sag and let the rain in.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I really don't know what the trim level will be like in the 2006 GT.

The new front fascia is to die for. Someone needs to die!

You have to remember that there is a global market for these cars and only a portion of the models come to NA and of those some go to the US and some to Canada.

For instance: 2004 Forester XT. There were 3 models available. The Base model cloth and no sunroof, 5 spd and 4EAT versions, which the US received. The PP1 model (Premium package one) which is the Cloth with sunroof , 5 spd and 4eat versions which Canada received. Then the PP2 model leather and sunroof the US received the 4eat version only while Canada had both 5spd and 4eat versions.

Then the 05 Outbacks came out and while the US received all the H4 and H4T versions Canada only received the PP2 model of the Outback XT, both transmission versions. but in Canada be did receive the base cloth H6 version 5eat, but not LLBean models and no Sedans.

For 06 all this means is that you, Americans, will not be getting the Cloth models and no 5spd versions for that year. Happily it doesn't mean we Canadians won't, but we will just have to wait and see.

MY06 LGT sedan comes with choice of 5MT or 5EAT, but the wagon is just 5EAT.

I would still like to see the Tribeca go away leaving that entire chassis for the Outback line and the Legacy line to assume the whole current Outback Legacy chassis.

Even offer a raised Legacy (option?) and bring out a new Outback design and line.

A Legacy Urban and Legacy Rally/Rural line.

New Outback to be like the Ford Fivehundred and Freestyle. Even keep the Tribeca front if necessary in a wagon and fuller sized sedan and Baja. Maybe even make it a full H6 line and 5EAT.

The Legacy being not much different than the Outback Legacy 05 lineup, but with the H4 and H4T and 5MT and 5EAT.

Looks like Subaru has decided that they don't like me. I wouldn't buy a SINGLE new 06 MY Subaru. Ever.

That's where you lost me. Please, I beg you, do not ever compare a Subaru to a Ford! You can contrast them just not compare I have owned three Fords. All three sucked. All three before I knew any better. Never again.

Back to the topic. cars101 is a great place to get info on the 2006 models. The complete link the the 2006 Legacy info is here: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/legacy/legacy2006.html

I just meant the idea for the Freestyle and the Fivehundred is what I expected from Subaru and not Ford. I did not expect the Tribeca to appear. A larger better Outback with more space and power VDC and all the premium trimings would have been better for the 7 seater and premium image. As it is, the Premium image of Subaru is a very ugly SUV. Two things I don't associate Subaru with, until now.

A Fivehundred sized Premium Subaru sedan would be good competition for the 300 AWD and other larger sedans. Instead Subaru decided to make something most Premium manufactures don't make; a seven seater SUV. Now there are many problems with a late arriving SUV, a Premium SUV. Even an Ugly SUV. Can I say ugliest SUV? Now that the Aztek has been replaced.

I didn't mean Subaru should be making Ford like cars, only that the Larger sized Subaru should have been like the Freestyle and Fivehundred.

I can only imagine how many of us would be openly laughing if the Tribeca was a Ford and the Fivehundred and Freestyle Subaru's! (all of us?)

Foresters are much more Car like and not nearly as ugly as the Tribeca. They're even classified as a wagon in most places.

But if the Tribeca was more Forester like I wouldn't even mind that. Except it isn't.

hey I was looking at Joe Spitz page and the Outback XT will be available, like in Canada, as the Limited only. But will still come in a 5MT or 5EAT SS. While the Legacy GT Wagon will be a Limited only 5EAT SS. The Legacy GT Sedan will be also only a limited but with the 5MT or 5EAT SS.

So if you only want a manual transmission your choice is limited to the:
Legacy GT Ltd Sedan
or
Outback XT Ltd Wagon

A good thing about this is that the sunroof on the XT now has soft edges so us taller people can drive without worrying about bumps smacking us into a hard metal sunroof rim.

But the 06 2.5i cloth looks like it might be a good candidate for an AVO turbo kit. 75% horse power gains will be putting out over 300BHP. And for a price that is still thousands less than a GT.

Don't knock Ford! I owned a 5.0 Mustang LX for many years - it was very reliable and never let me down - no blown head gaskets, clutch, transmission or any other "expensive" issues in 100k or so of very hard miles. Plus all that torque was just a lot of fun.

I miss my 5.0L GT "Cobra" Mustang's torque all the time. Except in winter.

If your really want a 5spd wagon with a 5spd, there may be some '05s left out there.

Last I checked there were 3 left in Western Canada in Ltd. trim. Only colors are black, red, and atlantic blue. I think there was 1 white in Quebec somewhere.

OB is too high and I prefer the looks of the GT. If I HAD to buy new, I might though.

Western Canada is a little off the beaten path for me. Is there a nationwide search engine or something for the 05 5-speeds?

They look EXACTLY like the 2005.
There is no redesign or anything.
I think the person who commented about the 06 that "someone needs to die" for
it was thinking of the 06 STI (which I happen to like).

For 06 the LGT is just getting NAV (in autos only) and the accessory packages
have been broken up into individual options.

And correct...if you want an LGT wagon AND a manual...you best hurry to your local
Subaru dealer and find a 2005 then, because for 2006 the manual has been
dropped in the LGT wagon.
