Default Need help finishing S2000 start button, remote cig lighter, turbo timer

I need help finishing mine. Everything is in place now just need the wiring straighened out. I tried to take alot of pics since there is no real WRX how-to that I know of so I was going to write it all up for you guys. I'll post more pics of the remote mounted cigarette lighter after I get it working.

It looks good but I ran into a problem, take look at this next pic. I think I've got the right plug to wire my relay into (the blue one). That normallly goes into the white plug with is part of my HKS turbo timer harness. No my dilemma is connecting the relay the right way.

I've got the 85 and 86 on the relay figured out definately

I tried this:
85 - to start lead from S2000 button
86 - to ground
30 - to the blue switch end of the IG wire
87 - to the HKS harness end of the ST wire
87a - to the HKS harness end of the IG

I then reconnected the remaining wires on the top half of the blue plug to their counterparts on the HKS harness with some short jumpers.

With this setup, it will crank, I can hear the fuel pump priming, and the relay is clicking (working fine) the S2000 button is sitting pretty, yet it won't fire!

Now I'm wondering if the guage of wires I used was too small 14ga or if the turbo timer being wired in is causing a problem, I reconnected it back to normal and it started fine

I was using this for some instruction:
http://www.miata.net/garage/pushstart/

Here's the diagram page 11 is the igniton diagram:
http://www.northursalia.com/m...ingdiagram.pdf

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED!

Thanks!!!

Assuming you are using 12+ for the input on the S2000 start button:

85 Ground
87 12+ constant in the main IGN harness...changes from black/white to white (use heavy gauge, 12 Gauge)
86 From start lead on S2000 button (can use 18 gauge)
30 starter wire in the main IGN harness....changes from black/yellow to white/black (use 12 gauge)

Also, make sure you use a 30 amp fuse in line with the wire connected to pin 87!

That is it! You will still be able to start it with the key also! Also, make sure you have the key all the way on when you push the start button. I assume you knew that though.

Also, you will not use 87a!!!!! The way you had it wired, you were interrupting your IGN wire when ever you pushed the start button. The car will not start if it does not see IGN! I am not sure what you were trying to do, but you made it much more complicated than it needs to be.

broadfield (Toby) you are the man!!! I simply tapped into my HKS harness, wired the 2 wires I was confused on with fuse, put the key to On and pushed the button! I shouted "IT's ALIVE!" when it actually worked! I'm going to do a big write up on my misadventures with alot of pics showing my remotely mounted cig lighter, and the the s2000 button.

Thanks again!

yeah I can use either the key or the s2000 button to start the car, the key must be turned to "On" for the button to work. It does look sweet and will match my JDM S203 red hazard button when it arrives

djerickd, where did you get your s2000 starter button, i was thinking about getting one. Can you make it so you can only start the car with the keys on and start button. I dont like the 2 way starting thing (where u can turn the key or press the button).

yes I think you would just cut the wire that the key start goes to, then it only starts with the button.

broadfield, do you know?

And what would happen hypothetically, if the car was running, and some moron (I'm 90% sure this will happen at least once if I do it) pushes the engine start button. Would you get that nasty grinding sound?
