Default Question: Age + Tires

I stumbled on some brand new but claimed 5+ years old track tires for sale privately. Claimed that it was stored in a basement. Can somebody give me input if they are even safe to ride on? How can I inspect if these tires can be safely driven on or autoXed. They will not be daily driven. They are Yokohama A008 RSII. Thanks.

Tires do age even when not in use, the rubber dries out. If they're really 5 years old I wouldn't trust them for track use. Have the seller send you the DOT code off the sidewall. The last two numbers are the year the tire was manufactured in. click here for more info on the DOT code.
