Default 17 inch wheel by 7.5 or 8.5

i'm looking to get some wheel..
i have the option to get 17X7.5 or 17X8.5
i know for time attack and track most professional car run 8.5
what's the advantage or disadvantage??

Advantages - ability to run wider tires

disadvantages - some extra weight.
- big ass tires may require rolling your fenders.
