I'll be there. I dunno about the highlight of the year...but rallies are always fun.

Tensen, where will you be shooting this year. Since theres new roads, many photogs will likely be shooting in the spectator areas.

Just bought a 350D, so i'll hopefully get some good shots too...

sounds like its mostly a new ball game, mostly new roads from what i hear...so your best bet is to get a copy of the spectator guide (probably available at Sunday River or ar Parc so you'll have limited options anyway...check the rally site too

I don't know the address, but its really easy to get to. In past MFR's headquaters (Rumford) take Route 17 and follow it a couple of miles until you see the Mexico Rec park on your left.

Tensen, I'm guessing without a media pass I can't go beyond the spectator points. Out of curiosity, how do you get a media pass? Im guessing at registration, but any requirements needed? Ex. age...

yup...no pass, you're corralled with the rest of the herd. maines spectator areas are generally better than say, STPR, where you're far back in the trees. You can definitely see the action.

As for passes, its not entirely easy, having experience and being known in the rally community helps. Either that, or being there for a purpose, ie for a magazine/newspaper etc and presenting your attendance via letterhead.

Also, you should only have a pass if you NEED one, just wanting to not being in with the rest of the spectators isnt enough. It is dangerous out there, as i'll bet you know, so you can understand how each person on the course is a potential liability. Lots of people ask me how to get passes, but it comes down to experience. The organizers dont want a zillion wannabees out there creating hazardous situations, so they (rightfully so) want to make sure that those who are gonna be out there are there for a reason and know what they're doing, and arent a danger to the event, not to mention themselves.

In the end, if you cant get good shots from the spectator points, you're not gonna get good shots from anywhere. Work with whats available to you and maximize that. Once you have enough ability and experience the rest will come...

Hell, some of my best shots were taken from spectator areas...
