Many threads on that subject right now. Falken FK451, Hankook z212 at about 100/each are probably the most popular. The Goodyear GSD3s and Kumho MXs look pretty good but creep up to about $140/each. The ZRis have been getting good reviews at about $90/each. Perhaps not as good as the rest in performance they will likely be quieter than the Falkens and live longer than the Hankooks.

Your post says summer so I am assuming no snow, though you live in the northeast.
Read reviews and see for yourself.

Unfortunately, the way people rate tires around here (they either suck or they are awesome) it is difficult to tell where one good tire stands next to another. The reviews I've read seem to put the Hankooks at a comparable level with the MXs but the MXs are about 35% more expensive. I don't know if they are better, or if so how much, but are they that much better?

Go with the Falken FK451's. I have them on my car and they perform great in both wet and dry. The over all improvement over the stock RE092's is incredible, the only downside is they are slightly louder.
just my .02

Every Kumho I have had has bulged out the sidewall. Dunno if its just me.
Look at the Yokohama ES100. I went from MX's to those and they were almost the same, a bit more predictability near breakaway with the ES.
Do not think I do not reccomend Kumho tires, on the contrary I Do reccomend them. I just have had bad luck with the sidewalls on both the MX and the 712. I have yet to try the SPT but those will probably be my next tire.
