Default Rear Differential Protector?

Have anybody ever installed a rear differential protector on an Impreza? Are they available in dealerships, if so, how much would it cost approximately?

I came up with this question because I heard the other table talking about Subaru rear differential protector while I was having dinner tonight.

Thanks.

yeah
i had one on my legacy
but if you are just city driving and not going off road all the time
dont waste your money, it is heavy and not needed
now, if you actually are gonna take it off road, then for sure, id suggest getting one
i think the dealership sells them for about 65$

and if you are REAL serious
then get the light weight, but heavy duty one from paul eklund at primitive
http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/skid.htm

i think it is 100$usd

Rocket Rally in Squamish can hook you up with a rear diff protector that will suit your needs.

The OEM version from the delarship is steel and heavy.

I have the Primitive one which is lighter due to 3/16 aluminium but will not clear some larger bore exhaust (if I had one). It's on the WRX now but it was also on my GC8 RS for a few years. It's one of the few transferable parts.

You can get a lighter (smaller) version that works just as well from Rocket Rally and they can make sure it will clear whatever exhaust you have.

If you need a rear diff protector, you probably need at least 1 other underbody protector for the engine and sump. Rocket Rally is the place you should be talking to for this.

PS. I have absolutely no connection with RR, just helping you out.

Thanks Petrie. Civilone, we have pre-fabbed ones and can also do custom ones. Please PM me for more info if you are interested.

Thanks a lot for the info guys, I might be considering one in the near future because I see how vulnerable the differential is from the looking at the back of the car.

Again, Great Thanks. So I guess I would have to make a custom one then or buy one from RR.

Civilone, do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Or planning on getting one? If you already have one I would recommend coming by the shop, we could measure your car up and get one made for you. Otherwise we could just try on a regular one and modify it to fit if need be. Anyways, I'll be back after the holiday so give us a shout.

I currently don't have an aftermarket exhaust. However, I am planning to get one, so I guess I would have to find a desirable exhaust before getting a protector I guess?

Thanks

You wouldn't have to. We could easily keep in mind you will not always have the stock exhaust and try to build something that should be able to accomodate a new system. Or worst case is, get the skid plate and when you do get an exhaust if there is any fitment problems we can adjust the plate if needed.
