Question Can an '01 H6 be bumped up to '05 H6 power?

That's the basic question.

<--- We have an '01 LL Bean wagon, which I think is 212hp (IIRC). The new H6 engines are, what, 250hp?

So...

What's the difference? ECU? More complicated than that?

Just wondering what it might take.

I think that the main difference has to do with the AVCS and head. Probably the AVCS allows for a more aggressive cam profile and maintain the nice idle. ECU tuning has something to do with it too probably. Possibly a slightly higher rev limit too, not sure though.

Here is a link to the AVCS http://www.drivesubaru.com/Win05_WhatsInside.htm I know that you have probably read it, but it is still good to read every now and then.

Long story short, much more complicated than I'd thought. Okay.

Thanks! Actually I hadn't seen that...

Do the new box 6 heads have tri-port exhaust manifolds like the SVX? The first box 6's were a siamesed port.

Yes. So in addition to swapping computers and stuff, you would need to swap at least part of the exhaust system.

I'd guess:
-computer
-exhaust
-intake manifold
-heads

and that's before someone checks to see if the compression ratio is the same. If not, then:
-the rest of the engine.

In that case....

212hp sounds pretty good.
