Default Picture request - BD series please

I have 2 front cracked pillars. I recently took it to a bodyshop to have it repaired (welded steel into the pillars). When it came back, the pillars have this odd bump where the steel was welded on, and it's preventing the windscreen seals from sitting flush.

Can anyone post a pic of their driver and passenger pillars, from 1996?-1999 models, so I have something to reference to?

Preferably a pic showing the hood and front door if possible.

Thanks, my Subaru siblings!

Donít have any pics readily available that focus in on that area, but I just got back in from outside and my BD pillars are completely smooth and donít have that rut..!

Looks like they did a pretty poor job with itÖ

Was this car ever repaired from an accident?

Not the best focus on the a piller, but from the reflection, you can tell there are no bumps. I would send it back.

Hey thanks team - really appreciate it. I am sending it back anyway, not very happy with the job.

If you think the repair isn't any good - you should see what it looked like!

And the vehicle title was clear, there was no loss history that my insurance agent could find. The cracks appeared during the wintertime. The car cost me $4000 cash, it was definitely not my smartest buy, but it is my daily and I do need to ensure that it is safe in the event of a rollover.

Oh well.

Wow, I have never seen that bad of a repair before. Thats amazingly bad.

I am guessing your body shop thought there was suspposed to be a seam there based on the seams being on both sides from the first repair.

Crazy.

ss

edit: I'd look for a lower seam too while youre at it. Its possible the whole front clip has been replaced. Seaming the a-pillar in such a repair is common.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I did ask them about it before it was done, if the pillar was going to be matched in - I think they misunderstood. They'd never worked on my year of Subaru before, there aren't a lot of places around me that have done work on them.

As much as I hate having to deal with this crap - I can't knowingly have this fixed, then sell the car, and know that somewhere out there someone else might have to deal with it.

when we re-skinned the rally car (removed sunroof section/replaced with non-sunroof section) it looked similar to that until we filled the holes. It fits perfectly now with no leaks. Was the roof of the car damaged at some point?
Correct me if I'm looking at the wrong section of the A-pillar.

Hmmm... I guess it was either a quick & dirty front clip swap or possibly a repair to a damaged section of roof (Like from a roll over ?).
Maybe an unreported accident/under the table repair job.
While we can all continue to speculate on it over the internet, If I were you I would ask an experianced autobody shop to check out your car for other signs of shoddy work and only then after its been properly looked over get an estimate on what the repairs are likely to run you. If the costs of the estimated repair(s) are too large you might want to 'part out' your car and purchase another one in better condition.

Sidenote:
Not all Legacy GTs had sunroofs or moonroofs, although it seems that the vast majority of them did. I recall when first car shopping for my '99 Legacy GT ltd, I was shown a '99 GT with out a sunroof, by a smart salesman whom I am guessing figured I would want the headroom, but nooo... I had to go all out and spend money on stuff I really dont want or have room for.

Thanks guys - the sunroof is there, and it works just fine. The car is sound, except for the two front pillars.

I am 100% sure that the car at some point had a roof replacement, why I don't know. The odometer is running at 173,000mi. I did a carfax etc check and the mileage is consistent, though there is the inevitable lack of servicing information. Recalls all matched though.

I have already had two bodyshops take a look at the frame etc. All they can find is some rust damage to the rear trunk section, and the issues with the front pillars.

Does anyone else have a camera they can just take a quick shot of their pillar?

Thanks!
