Default STI TMIC help / question

For those of you who have added the STI TMIC, how did you incorporate the STI/WRX style BOV?

See the difference, the hose connects in a completely different location and angle.

Found this thread:
FXT & STI TMIC install help

Looks like I need this hose: (pn#: 99071AC540 )

Are the Baja A/C lines close to rubbing the bottom of the TMIC, similar to what happens with the FXT?

Parts needed to convert from Baja TMIC to STI TMIC:
STI tmic
STI Y pipe
STI or WRX BOV
2 bolts holding BOV to tmic (Baja-T tmic has studs you can't reuse)
STI recirc hose

anything else needed?

anyone have install picts of recirc hose setup?

What a PITA!!

Removing the stock Baja-T recirc metal hose was nearly impossible because of a 12mm bolt that was tucked underneath - fortunately my wrench was able to break it loose and I did micro turns to get it off -- fought for over an hour to get this one bolt! ugh!

Ok, now I have everything off, whew!

But wait:
- the hose from the Y-pipe to the turbo is coming up short
- the two mounting brackets are not 100%, a little bend should fix those
- the hood rubber "gasket", that flows air down to the TMIC, cuts off the back half of the STI IC. I'll look into trimming that I guess.

Ugh -- how did some of you guys solve these issues ??

no go. running with the stock TMIC for now -- I'm thinking the VF39 might have a longer inlet tube and the red 90 degree angled hose will fit properly. I haven't checked the VF39 yet to get a measurement.

I did pick up a piece of Ford or Chevy radiator hose but it was a hair too narrow to fit over the ends properly.

When you get in there, you'll see there is a bracket with two 12mm bolts, one is closer to the driver's side of the head and the other is about dead center on the head and tucked under. if you get your head in and below where the TMIC is you will see it. Unplug the harness connector. A small wiring harness is attached to this brass colored bracket. I bent the bracket up slightly and with a 12mm wrench from the driver's side and I was able to fit it through the castings and get a bite. The clamp on the Baja recirc. hose was around the backside of the hose but with long nosed plyers you'll be able to squeeze it and roll it around and off.

Hey do you have any pics of the hoses you are talkinging about...the ones you're having trouble getting to fit. I've been running an STi TMIC with my setup(which is finally almost done) for about 4 or 5 months now. If you can get me some pics of yours and the problem I can most likely help. I know what hoses you are talking about I just wanna see how yours look in comparison to mine.

its the hose at the end of the Y-Pipe that connects to the turbo that is coming up short for me. Are you running the stock turbo or VF39?

I got the STI recirc. hose so that connected fine after removing the brass Baja recirc. pipe.

What did you do with the rubber gasket on the underside of the hood; deflects air down on to the intercooler? for the STI IC, 1/2 of it will not get any air if the gasket remains.

ive been in there a few times and i think i know what is going on b/c it has happened to me... the sti's and baja's are throttle by wire, and no other recent model subie is, and that makes the sti/baja throttle body about and inch or so thicker than a wrx's/forester's/legacy's throttle body, and that is about how much you are off, right? we had the same problem b/c we ordered new hoses from samco, and they are made for wrx's even though they say universal, the L-pipe on the end of the y-pipe is just not long enough to get to the turbo... i ordered a brand new jdm sti tmic just recently and it is supposed to come with the stock jdm sti hoses... we will see if this will work, i should get enough time to throw it in either saturday or monday. good luck with yours!

Im actually running a VF22....here is how mine is setup...I removed the stock metal brackets from the OEM tmic and bolted them up to the STi one...Then I have the Samco intercooler hose set, but with the hose set, the part that branches off and goes to the turbo is cut and a metal pipe was placed in between to extend the pipe down and towards the turbo; the pipe is completely perpindicular to the intercooler...I didnt do this myself, it was done by the person i bought it from who was running the STi TMIC on his wrx. I cant get you pictures of it till the middle of next week after I get my final tune done, but if my description isn't clear ill take some pics on tuesday for you. As far as the rubber piece that directs air into the intercooler....i just removed it. Eventually I would like to get an STi scoop and mount up the rubber piece for an STi but thats not in the near future for me. For now Im just trying to get the baja ready for the 20th so I can show some people what it is capable of at the shootout(hopefully ill make it there).
