Subaru Stars Security system upgrade for 2000-2004 Legacy's?

I was wondering if anybody has installed the factory security system upgrade on a 2000-2004 Legacy? I have been thinking about installing an alarm, the factory one would be fine for what I am looking for and you can get the kit for $120. I just don't know how hard it actually is to install. Thanks.

Yep, good luck!

Theres also issues finding the kit that makes your running lights blink when you lock/unlock. I seem to recall the newer kits don't have this feature, but finding an older kit now will be next to impossible. Theres several threads on NASIOC about it, but I wouldn't know what to search for to find them...

I found the write up over there, seems pretty simple (except tearing the dash apart is a PITA).

So the old kit makes the day time running lights flash? I assume that the parking lights still flash with the newer kit?

Old kit makes parking lights flash, new kit doesn't make any flash(if I understand correctly).

Hmm, well that sucks, I don't really want to loose the parking lights flashing since they already do. I will have to look into it some more, thanks.

Ok, well by reading this:

Be warned if you are planning on purchasing the Factory Security Upgrade kit for 2000 to 2002 Legacy.

The part number for the original kit is H7110LS100. Subaru has replaced it with part number H7110LS400 effective 10/2002 but i'm am not sure exactly when the orignial kit became unavailable.

The upgrade will work as described except the parking lights will NOT flash. The reason is that the security module in the older kit contained a relay to flash the lights. The newer one does not because the keyless entry module handles that in 2003+ models.

In the owners manual and installation, the guides do state the lights will flash. I had to test the entire system to come to the conclusion that the upgrade does not contain the correct parts.

They do not sell the older kit any longer. The fix is to advise them of this issue and request part number H7110LS110 which is the older security module.

I just went through this, however my dealer did give me the older module for free.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

It looks like it is just the 2000-2002 models it affects since the 03-04 models the flash is built into the keyless entry system, at least thats how I am understanding it.

yeah, cause my 2001 keyless entry does NOT flash. I've had a security upgrade sitting in my garage waiting to be installed for a few years now, so maybe I have the old kit?!? I will install it ONE DAY!!!
