Default Anyone run slicks??

I want to run a little taller tire at the track and i was wondering if anyone used slicks. M/T or whatever, not a brand issue here just interested if u think its remotely necessary. Or would a taller set of some DOT R compounds be just as benificial?

PS - the taller thing is that i am hoping to avoid shifting into 5th at the end of the track (1/4M), i figure it works for the Hondas maybe it'll work here.

Unfortunately as far as slicks go you are cursed by your brakes. In order to find a drag slick that would work you have to toss the Brembos and go to smaller brakes. M&H makes tires desgined for import applications, though there are also taller M&H slicks available (in the 26" range). Mickey Thompson also makes 26" tall slicks in a 16" wheel.

The real questions is do you actually make enough power to need slicks? There are plenty of AWD cars running R compound tires and running ALOT faster than you are likely to ever go. John Shepherd until very recently had been running 225-50-16 Toyo RA1's and been in the low 9's.

If you want a taller tire to avoid the last shift down the quarter look for some 245-45-17 or similar. BFG also offers a 245-40-18 drag radial which stands 25.6" tall. If you are mostly stock (or minor bolt ons) you probably wont have to shift to 5th anyway.

i am currently only running a cat back and UTEC. Dp, fuel pump, and injectors all should be in this week. I know thats not even close to heavily modded! But yes i am shifting into 5th i can't avoid it, no matter when i shift on the track or how long i hold 4th i hit the limiter. Maybe i'll try nitto 555r's i can get a deal on those. The only reason i said slicks is B/C a friend of mine just started working at a new shop here and they are getting amazing prices on some really good tires. 555r's included

well good is a relative term for "as compared tothe US."
