Its a pretty cool idea and I've research it quite a bit.

The upsides:
Boost

The downsides:
Short lived boost periods
Lots of extra weight for supercharger/motors/batteries
To set this up effectively (without damaging your engine) you need to add like a RRFPR at the very least.
Have to charge the batteries
Quite expensive ($1300 for supercharger + $200/300 in batteries + 150 for RRFPR) so it is easily a $1600+ project with all the extra wiring etc needed.

Now... For around $3k you can get a FAT turbo kit. Or you can build up a custom kit with used bit for much cheaper if your willing to do the work.

The 3K FAT 1 kit is not really usable because you still need the intercooler - $500
which takes you to FAT 2 kit, $3800

In street driving, how often do we really hit boost ? we mostly need short bursts of boost intermittently
The supercharger kit seems to avoid the need for an intercooler since they measured very small temperature rise
We probably still need something like a Walbro fuel pump and a J&S safeguard

The primary problem with electric drive superchargers is the changing of energy states. Mechanical (crank power) to eletrical (alternator) to chemical (battery) then back to eletrical and mechanical. That's why you only get short bursts and need extra batteries. It's just very low total system efficiency.

And that kit uses a roots blower which is heavy and probably wastes a fair amount of power just turning the inertia of the heavy blades. I think this would be a lot more interesting with a centrifugal blower.

One of the supercharger kits off a Mercedes with the clutch drive sounds a lot more reasonable if you can get a belt on it. Either way it is a lot of custom work. But you save several energy conversions.

edit: Electric drive does have one distinct advantage. Control over speed. With belt drive you get pretty much no control, just a ratio of the crank speed (2x RPM, 2.5x RPM, etc). Turbine drive with EBC and a wastegate you get some degree of control over speed. Eletric drive you pretty much have total control.

I have seen a FAT stage1 kit and while the setup isn't perfect is isn't that bad either.

I hit the boost all the time of course I don't have a FAT kit but when my buddy had a stock FAT stage 1 setup he was in boost 3k rpm. So you hit the boost quite a bit.

reddevil on this board setup a supercharger on his legacy (I'm not sure if it is the Mercedes one with an electronic clutch or not) but it certainly can be done if you want to put in the work for it. It would be a pretty cool setup if you could get it to work.

And FYI don't think you won't need an intercooler for a Supercharger setup. The air temperature rises no matter what method you do it due to the laws of thermodynamics (high pressure = higher heat). And 99% of turbo setups increase the air temperature LESS PER PSI than 99% of superchargers. It only seams like a marginal temperature increase since most superchargers are running lower boost.

If you want to go the electric route go for it and take pictures and post them . I'm sure it would be intresting irregardless to how you do it but as it has been pointed out the electric supercharger route is nowhere near efficent.

yes its a good product! Everyone is using it because its so good. In fact, there are dyno charts all over the place showing extreme horsepower gains.
