Default Broken Window Switch (URGENT)

My driver's window switch no longer rolls up the windw, but it rolls it down just fine. Lately, I've just been leaving it up, but late tonight, I had a lapse and rolled it down at a McDonalds drive through . Is there a way to get it rolled back up without using the switch? Does someone have a part number for the switch, so I can order a new one? Everything else on the housing works (mirrors, locks, other windows) and it rolls down just fine, so I know it's neither the entire housing, nor the window motor. Thanks in advance!

My passenger window doesnt go down by the passenger control, I have to use the drivers control (only a pain when with friends). Anyways, I have attempted to fix it multiple times. I took the switch part out, and got to the point with the contacts. The one contact wouldnt touch when the switch was pushed (or pulled), so I just got something thin and manually forced it down and bent the metal a little so it connects with the motion of the switch. Free, worth a shot.

My son's '97 model did the same type of thing. His master control switch would open, but not close, the rear passenger window, causing you to have to reach back there to close it using the door switch.

I removed and disassembled his drivers door switch unit, and cleaned the contacts on the switches. They were black with sooty carbon, and not making good contact. I don't remember anything particularly tricky about the whole operation. Once the assembly was out, it seemed like a rather instinctive repair.

Good luck!

Rich

97: exact same thing for me. must be a y2k thing . A few weeks ago it became extremly finicky. I have to pull it a certain way for the window to come up. I might try opening + cleaing the contacts. whatever you do, let me know too..

iamrazor - That is EXACTLY what I had to do, but now it won't work at all. I'm going to pull apart the housing and take a look at the contacts like richeich suggested, and I'll let you know how it goes.

I took the housing apart and cleaned what little carbon there was on the switch, and it still does not work. For anyone else having the same problem, the part number is 83071AE01B and it is $60.92 from www.subaruparts.com

Try my solution. Force the metal contact down, push down on the metal a little so it has more of a slope. (I found more success when I held the button the other direction and pushed down, it bent the metal more, but not enough to constantly connect)

Carefully, but with force. Start from the top and work your way down. When you have all of it out except for the bottom, you should be able to unplug the mirror-controls from the rear of the panel. After you do this, you should have enough play to either fully take it out or at least have enough to unplug the window controls (then take it fully out.)

After it's out, you'll have to remove the cover surrounding the actual buttons. This is done by removing the four large phillips-type screws from the bottom.

From here, you can pop the individual switches off by pulling out the sides.

Hope this helps,
Jonathan

Jonathan, did you end up replacing that part? Mine's really bad now. I have to use a screwdriver to force the switch forward a bit before the window will go up. I don't want to buy one new. I'd rather find one from a junkyard.

Yes, I ended up replacing it through www.subaruparts.com (if memory serves me correctly.) It was a three minute fix, and it's worked ever since.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Anyone tried a salvage yard?

There must be a million of those switches in circulation...

Umm, I don't think they are, and if there is any illumination it's just the front driver's "auto".

None of the passengers switches are.
