Default ok to buy a used 04' AP for an '05?

I'm looking to pick up a used accessport. I have a 2005. is it any problem if I find an AP for a 2004 and then just upgrade it myself to a 2005? Does this upgrade give anyone issues? Or should I just look to get a used 2005 ap?

just called. they said the accessport is the same, but the programming is a little different. so i would have to send them the AP and just pay return shipping and they'd upgrade it, and i'm looking into if i could do the upgrade myself.

Go to their website and get yourself the latest 05 maps and the latest map manager utility. Then before you do anything with those download and run this program (http://www.accessecu.com/support/ReprogramAP_05WRX.zip (unzip it first obviously))to reflash the AP to 05 firmware. You will have to know how to connect the AP to your PC and get that communication to work. If you need help with that get on their forum and ask questions, but it's pretty easy to do. Good luck.

you can switch between the '04 and '05 programming. so yes, it's safe just as long as the seller doesn't screw you and doesn't un-marry it.

yeah, you need more than new maps, but there is a utility on the cobb site to convert an 04 AP to 05 and also to switch back to 04.

look, found the link. took all of twenty seconds...

Dude seriously, what more do you want from us? We told you what to do and even pointed the finger at what to download and run to get an 04AP to be an 05AP. How much more hand-holding would you like us to do for you?

I bought my 05 AP last week, but the part number was AE-WRX-PORT-04. According to the AP dealer, all 04-05 has 04 as an part number. Anyway, all preloaded maps were for 2005 WRX and confirmed it using map manager. If you can find a used 04AP, it should work as long as proper maps and 05 firmware are loaded.
