Question CAN -> US Bumper conversion question

I have a CDM RS with the ugly stock bumper and want to put a US bumper on.

I was told that I'll need a wiring harness for the bumper turn signals as the Canada version does not have those.

Is this true? Does anyone have this part # so that I may purchase the wiring harness? I also heard that the wiring harness is part of the whole orange turn signal package and that Subie dealerships would probably be unwilling to sell just the harness.

If it's not worth buying the whole package(I want clear bumper lamps), can anyone guide me through the wiring process that I can DIY? Thanks!!!

You don't need any special harness. The one on your car already will work.

Take a look at the montreal club webpage. I think they have a listing of all the parts you need to do the conversion.

I think what I meant to ask was, what is different about the stock US bumper lights package (that you would get from a Subaru dealership) and an aftermarket clear bumper lights set.

I am assuming already that the USDM bumper setup has a wiring connector that we don't use... it's built into our projector fog unit somehow?

What you need are the bulb holders -- The turn signal lens bulb socket is different than ours. Say that as fast as you can 10 times!

As for the foglights, go for aftermarket. I've got a set of Hella 500's bolted to a Kartboy mount, bolted to a custom mounting plate.

LaterZ!

Thanks for the info guys!
Where do I get these bulb holders from? Would a sorted set of clear bumper turn signals have these bulb holders? Like Earl's from Hawaii?

Hey, I also have the PIAA Kartboy mounts and a set of Hella 500 driving lamps waiting to be put on! Whoa this is freaky!

Billy,

you don't need to buy new holders, harness, or anything.

Reason is, the holder for the bulb is too big and won't come out of the hole in your stock turn signal lense. So just cut a bigger hole in the plastic in the back of the lense. When you look at it you'll know what I mean. then it fits in the new turn signal and just secure it any way you wish, it'll never be seen and chances are you won't be using your old signal lenses again anyways.

That's exactly what I needed to know!

Thanks Rob... and it's so odd that we are both posting to the same server somewhere in Cali even though we are but 13 floors apart in the same building here in Toronto.
