You know what you'll pay in taxes (15%), the duties on a particular product can be found if you know where to look... in other words it's documented.

Customs brokerage charges levied by courier companies on you are totally arbitrary, so people who work at say UPS have said.

This may not help you much but I've bought speakers valued at 510CAN and I had to pay 80in duties/taxes/customs brokerage. This was shipped via UPS about a year ago.

Default Stay away from UPS unless you have your own brokerage

These guys are just killers for brokerage charges. FexEx handles the brokerage for way less, or you can do it yourself if you want to do the paperwork (took me about 20 minutes including driving time here in Ottawa).

It has been my experience to go with regular US postal service for delivery. It is very reliable, although no tracking is available. You will incur the normal charges based upon the daily converted, Canadian price of the item(s): add 7% GST (of course), a $5 flat rate handling charge per box, & possibly a 15% duty on electronics. I have been charged the duty sometimes & other times not, for the same item essentially. But, at least that's what you can expect over & above the actual shipping costs. Expensive - yes. Could be worse.
