Default Hankook Ventus R-s2

After searching and reading reviews I think I'm going to get the HANKOOK VENTUS R-S2 tires for my 05 wagon.

What are the chances of getting 25K+ miles out of these? I haven't found much information about long term wear. I do the occasional auto-x and I drive pretty conservatively on the street with the occasional 40 MPH, 90 degree turn or the 90 MPH sweeper when it's safe to do so. Probably 40% city 60% hwy.

The only other option I've found that I like that would seem to provide a little bit better wear would be the BFG G-Force Sports but would they be anywhere near as sticky as the R-S2?

Also, I will be using these on the stock 16x6.5 rims. With the BFGs I could squeze in a 215/55 without too much bulging. The only size wider than the 205/55 in the R-S2 is the 225/50. Are the sidewalls of the R-S2s stiff enough that I could run the 225s on a 6.5" wheel without too much turn-in loss?

It will currently be hard to find good long term mileage numbers out of these Hankook's since they are so new. Pretty much all you will find right now is estimates.

I've had them on since April. 215x45x17. I've also tracked them at Homestead, and still have a lot of meat left, considering their 200TW. They are an AWESOME tire, and get really sticky when warmed up. Plus, you can't go wrong with the price. Definitely an excellent competition to the Azenis 615.

Yeah... I've been getting good feedback on them.... I just wish I could get someone to tell me if they are running 225/50's on stock 16 x 6.5 wheels???

I just got 225/50R16 R-S2's put on my stock wheels this morning. My next autocross event is August 13th. I'm not sure how much information I'll be able to get since the event is in the dark, I've upgraded the front sway bar since my last autocross, and the only tires I can compare these to are the OEM RE92's that I wore out.

Cool!! Sounds like you are on the same path as me. I just ordered my new front sway bar and end links (Perrin). My next autox is Aug. 14th. I won't have tires by then, but I hope to have the front bar in. How do the tires look? Are the sidewalls bulging? Got good clearance all around? Maybe if it's not too much hassle for you, could you repost here after your Aug. 13th run and give us a report??

The sidewalls are definitely bulging a bit. I've seen pictures of various other 225/50-16 tires mounted on the stock wheels, and these look similar.

Hopefully I'll be able to notice the difference in tire grip. The front sway bar will probably mess up the comparison of turn-in response and handling in sweepers, since I already noticed a big difference with just the bar on RE92's in normal driving.

PM "Student Driver" for an opinion. I just saw in a search that he has the same tires on stock wheels and has already autocrossed with them.

....the Z212 is available in a 215/45-16 AND a 225/45-16 as well......either of those would be a bit better than the 225/50 as far as the sidewall is concerned......the diameter difference isn't too bad.

Yeah... I was thinking about the 225/45-16's. But that is an inch less in diameter than stock. I HATE doing MPH calculations/estimations in my head at 80 (oh.. wait, is that actually about 77.3 or 82.6) MPH

BTW, very cool tire calculator web site. That sure beats the shiznit out of beatin' on my desk top calculator!

Well, I went ahead and ordered the "Kooks" (I think that's what we should call them). You can't beat <$90 per tire installed.

I got the P205/55 because I was scared to go with the 225s on my 6.5" rims. I hear the sidewall isn't that stiff on these so they would probably flex a lot on the stock wheels.

Even in the OEM size the tread width is still over 1/2" wider than the stock RE92. The 225 tread width is about 1.5" wider than the RE92. I couldn't imagine another 1.5" width when looking at how the RE92s sit on these wheels performing very well.

I have run the 225/45/16's for 2 auto-x's now. Before I had Azenis Sports in 215/45/16. The new Hankook's run circles around the Azenis Sports hands down. With the girth of the WRX on a narrow tire, the Azenis got very greasy when they got a little warmth in them. Hankooks on the other hand love the heat. The hotter I get them, the better they are.

The Hankooks are wearing fairly well considering at the last 2 Auto-x's here in Birmingham we got 8 runs each. I see tread at 60-70%

For the money, Hankook is the way to go.

I just picked up a set of Hankooks and my initial opinion is that they are squishy and vague. Is upping the pressure going to fix that?

I have my 235/40-17's at 42F/39R and may go up another psi or 2.....they get better as they wear in a bit.....the first couple hunderd miles is usually like that, anyway, 'cuz the mold release agent is wearing off the tires.

Crap! I'm at the tire shop.

They mounted the new tires and I went out to look at them. They put the HR2 on there instead of the RS2 like I asked for.

They've never heard of the RS2/Z212 and neither has their distributor. They're putting my 3 RE92s back on there and my doughnut spare.

I should have just ordered them from DiscountTire since the shipping is free anyway. Now I won't have tires until next week at the earliest.

OK, it just got worse!

They scratched the crap out of every wheel accept the one that was already scratched! Not little, incidental, scratches that occur when working on a wheel but large 1/8" wide x 1-2" long scratches through the paint to bare metal.

I said something about it but they said the manager was gone for the day and I'd need to come back tommorow.

Hopefully they'll be paying for either refinishing or replacement wheels after I talk to the manager.
