Default cobb doesn't like the old body styles anymore...

i went online to see see the equal-length cobb headers, as I almost have enough saved for them. all I see now are parts for the 2005 legacy models and it took me a while to find the 2000 - 2004 stuff. but when I did find it, there were no exhaust components anymore. where are my headers that I've saved up $800 (almost to $900) and am about to order?!?

...not that there was ever much support for BE/BH from the aftermarket vendors in the first place...

I'd email them personally, I'm sure they've got stuff layin around still.

Yeah, by the redesign of the website, it appears they've abandoned a lot of Legacy support.

They used to list the BD/BG's and had the Stage 1 brake kit. It's the exact same thing as the Impreza one, but they just removed it from their site.

Screw em. I sent them an email 2 days ago and the autoreplay says that I will not get a reply for 5 or more days. They can't be that busy.

Cobb are notorious for promising product development and not delivering. They are only supporting newer models. Expect to see 2002 WRX owners complaining of the same thing in a few years, when the 2008 STi comes out.

It's logical really - customer base for newer cars is bigger, and technology changes quickly.

It IS annoying though when a manufacturer promises to deliver, and doesn't even state why they are no longer supporting a particular platform.

I'd get the TWE headers though, they are probably the best on the market.

IIRC, anything made for the latest RS should fit the earlier model Legacies...

The RalliTek forums and the NA forums here has had some pretty good info about headers. Plus Cobb had a different end point for their header which forced you to go custom exhaust or use theirs.

Same thing happened to me when I emailed them about my CAI. I just followed up with a phone call and they picked up right away and answered my question. They did follow up with an email a couple days later.

Cheers,
Ryan

I'm not in a hurry, it's still kind of stupid. How can you make money if you can't respond to emails for days.

How can you make money when you are paying extra staff a wage to answer emails?? Just call them and you'll have your answer.

Additionally, as for the headers. They are the EXACT same part as what would be listed for an RS. Most everything that they actually still make and would fit the Legacy would also fit the RS.

I'm a classic story of their failed promises. I pre-ordered and pre-paid for a set of their headers, and after a few 6-8 weekseses, I called them the last time to find out that the Legacy headers were on permanent hold. They credited my card back, but thanks for nothing.

I tell everyone the same thing - don't order outside of what they have in stock. They pulled similar things on the catback that wasn't in stock and the swaybar that wasn't in stock, although those were not paid for... I was just led to believe that they would arrive eventually, but no.

They will get no more of my business.

Well, I have companies that I email all the time and they respond with 24 hours. some within 30 minutes. They get my business and they seem to be making good money, so maybe they DO need an internet dude on staff...

And yeah, I knew a lot of rs stuff fit the legacy, I just forgot to look at that stuff on the website...

So here's the deal... I have $800 in subaru credit card bucks saved up and was gonna get the cobb headers thru subaru of dallas cause I can order them in town, hand them my subaru bucks, and just pick them up when they come in. I was going for the ceramic coated with cat for $998 or $999 or something right aroud there. Sub of Dallas had some borlas in stock for only $350 or something, but I didn't want that.

So if I can't get the Cobb headers, what will I do. Sub of dallas has everything of hotsubaru.com, so maybe I'll see if they have any other cool headers available...

well, it would seem that COBB has all the business it can handle right now, so...

There are basically three NEW header choices for you, that I'm aware of:

TWE
COBB
Borla

There are others, like Brullen and MRT, but they are not made anymore, I think. Brullen I know no longer exists.

Good luck

is the borla equal length now?!? I don't want to spend money on something that has been getting mixed reviews from day one... i wonder if sub of dallas can get the twe if cobb can't follow through...

The borla headers were and still are unequal length. If you do get the TWE headers, tell me what you think of them.

btw, nice car =)

...and who would expect to see a mostly stock outback to have custom headers (and a few other performnce mods coming soon)... here's an old link i found from a photo of my car and you'd never expect this to have engine mods...

uhhh, maybe i won't get the twe headers. they are $950 without ceramic coating and without a high-flow cat. the cobb was supposed to include all that for $50 more...

I think the TWE price went up recently.

The response from Cobb was "Give us a call". All I wanted was a price.

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.....
When you get the COBB header and either the high flow cat or the "track/test pipe" it all mates to a stock cat back exhaust.

IIRC, it was the Brullen that required hacking or buying their COMPLETE exhaust to work (I don't have the Brullen, so I may be perpetuating an old wives tale)

I DO have the COBB exhaust. I did the catback first (mated fine to my OEM header) then added the COBB EQ header and high flow cat which mated fine to the COBB catback.

As to availability, check the COBB Impreza section for pricing. The exhaust is still around.

To quote Josh (as he has stated to me before) "You are a bitter man."

I agree about a number of COBB items in the past. I have been left short before, but I have also hit paydirt.

I can understand your comments though. Especially since we see each other at "that other forum" a lot.

Now, if we both could afford a 2005 Legacy, we would be set.

Josh can say what he wants, but COBB deals in these poor business practices.

Simply, put up or shut up. No empty promises. No vaporware.

Or, no business.

At the convention in WA COBB was there and i was asking them about the BD line of products that they were carrying and one of the reps there said that there just wasn't a demand for them "period". So they took them off, he said something about people calling for a need basis but I can't remember what is is that he said about it. He said that he got tired of guys calling up wanting to know about the products and saying "I'm getting ready to order this here in about a week or so" and then not.

well, that's what people do. they think about and look at it and touch it and poke at it and then decide if they want it or not... and since they can't walk into a store to see cobb stuff (assuming they are in one of the other 49 states or any number of other countries), they have to call or visit the website and ask a bunch of annoying questions.... that's life. but it stiull doesn't help us put parts on out cars...
