Default Gerald Jones Subaru, Augusta GA

These people are good 'ole boys - Which is a huge misnomer considering they don't appear to be very good about anything.

I wish I had logged these events with more detail when they happened. This is the best I can do from memory.

First went to buy an Outback. Gerald Jones wanted 26k for it, would not budge. That was several thousand over invoice at the time. So we told them what they could do with their extra 5 grand, and went to Troncalli Subaru outside of Atlanta. Troncalli is a great dealership, but is 4.5 hours away from my house.

Next, after the breakin period when I was really 'driving' the car, I was noticing the ill-famed hesitation, so I took it into Gerald Jones for service.

They kept it for two days, charged me over a hundred dollars, and did nothing but reset the ECU. This problem fixed itself later on.

The few times I brought it in to GJS (Gerald Jones Subaru) to have the oil changed (I lived in an apartment with no driveway or garage at the time) they always managed to screw something up. Whether it be paint scratches, tears in the interior, grease stains on the carpet, etc etc... I never got the car back as a happy customer.

Around 15k on the odo I brought it in to have the front brake pads replaced since they were fading horribly after a few highway speed stops. Basically, two stops from 80MPH and I had zero braking capability. I hadn't decided which aftermarket pads to buy yet, so I decided to stick with subaru OE.

Here is my conversation with the service manager:

Me: "I want you to replace the front brake pads even though they are not worn all the way down."

SM: "Ok we'll do it."

Me: "What are you going to do?"

SM: "Check the brakes."

Me: "No. REPLACE the front pads. Replace them. I will pay for new pads. Replace them. Replace them. Replace them. I do not care how worn or not worn they are. Replace them."

SM: "Ok we'll replace them."

This is after I explained the fade problem in greater depth to him, he seemed not to believe me.

6 hours later I call (after they promised to call me) and am told the car was ready 4 hours ago.

I get a ride (45 minutes) to the stealership and ask if they replaced the pads.

SM: "No we didn't replace the pads. My mechanic said they looked fine and we took it around the block, it braked fine."

Me: "You're an idiot. What did I tell you to do?"

SM: "Now listen here boy, I've been doing this job for 30 years blah blah blah blah. You're problem here is you've been using your left foot on the brake, I can see the marks on the pedal. Now you can't left brake a subaru without damaging the rotors and pads blah blah blah {5 minute rant on my driving style and age}"

Me: "Give me my keys. Here's your F'ing check."

____ I then went to Paul Eklund, bought the metal master pads he has for sale, installed them myself, and have had no further brake fade problems.

______________

I was rear-ended at a stoplight and had the rear bumper replaced by a local body shop who did a crappy job. Seems like everybody around here sucks with cars.

Anyway, after the accident the exhaust was rubbing with a HORRIBLE screeching metal on metal sound against part of the undercarriage. My guess is that the impact pushed the midpipe forward and the body shop didn't bother to fix it.

Anyway, I took it GJS simply because they are the closest stealership. I asked them to fix the squeaking exhaust.

Their fix was to GRIND OFF PART OF MY CAR. They didn't rustproof the part they grinded off either. So now my relatively new car is rusting. And still squeaking. Unfortunatly I was not there to pick up the car, my mom & dad were already in augusta that day and offered to get it for me.

When the mechanic pulled up in my car, it was still making a horrible racket from the midpipe rubbing. When my dad told the guy to turn the car around and fix it, the Service Manager (same good ole boy who's been doing this for 30 years) said there was nothing wrong.

"All subaru's have squeaky brakes. It's a flaw in the subaru design. They work well but the brakes are noisy."

Riiiiiight. Can someone please please explain to me how the brakes have anything to do with a HORRIBLE screeching/squeak when the car is NOT MOVING in NEUTRAL with NOBODY TOUCHING THE BRAKES?!?!?!?

These guys are smoking crack rock.

That was the last time I've been back there. I've had enough.

I hate those people, I hate that dealership.

I believe they should lose their subaru franchise, and from what audi owners have told me... they should lose the audi license too.

I just had to bump this. I'd love to see that dealership shut down.

just went to this dealership... holy crap. i went there to buy an oil filter, and here's the conversation:

me "i need an oil filter for an '05 sti."
him "okay."
me "is it the white one or the black one?"
him "it's the only one we carry now."
me "okay, just making sure it wasn't the black one. i've heard they had a lot of issues with them."
him "nope, this is the only one we have now." (he rings it up) "that'll be $17.xx"
me "what?"
him "$17.xx"
me "are you serious?"
him "yup."
me "i've never paid more than half of that."
him "that's the price they've always been. they're the new 100's. (referring to the part numbers)"
me "no thanks."

i went across the street to advanced auto and picked up a purilator pureone for 5 bucks. 17 dollars my @ss.

Just FYI, if you want body work done in Augusta go to Kendrick's, it's down on Broad street between 15th and 13th. They won't give you any ridiculously good deals, but they'll fix your car like new.

Default dealer pov

I work at a dealer in the parts dept, and know firsthand what you are saying does occur. I would also say it seems to happen more at dealer who multiple lines of vehicles. Unfortunately a pretty common occurence, particularly in the South. In my mind a dealer will make mistakes, the wrong parts get ordered, and etc. but what we can't do is not call our customers back and keep them informed on what in many instances is 35-40k investment. People will forgive mistakes and overlook problems if the effort is there, if a person actually cares about what he does. Customers will even pay a higher price(high not ridiculous- see $17 oil filter) for a part if there is value behind it. But that is just my opinion let me here from you. pm me with your story and ideas for improvement.

My only experience with them involved a brake bleed that resulted in a CEL (and brakes that were still mushy). I'm still not sure how that one happened.

they must've come under new management, since my purchase of an 2.5i Impreza back in oct they've impressed me with their level of service, of course this will only be put to the test when i actually have a problem , 20k miles so far doing fine.

I purchased my 06 STI there. I've never had a problem with service, but I was always amazed at how unintelligent the sales people were. The mechanics seemed fine.

I forgot about this thread.

I got the CEL because they got my filter wet (AEM CAI) when they did their courtesy wash and when one of the tools drove the car out they revved it too high and sucked water into the MAF. It happened to me coming out of the car wash after that...but I'm allowed to drive that way. Of course, I don't do that any more.

Our salesman Scott, was amazingly knowledgeable about Subarus.
I knew all about them going in, i just figured we'd end up with a Toyota
Matrix or Scion XD but we got in a basic Impreza for less cash & it's more car to boot.

like i said this was all more recent so hopefully it has changed for the better. are there other reputable shops that know their way around Subarus in the Augusta area any of you guys recommend?

just noticed you guys are locations are all out of state, so disregard the last question if your profile is correct.

They sell outbacks. Plenty of other dealerships more performance oriented and with better prices. Shop around, do your homework, toss them a bone and see what they say.

We shopped them for my wife's new car. Started with subaru, checked the VW's, ended up with a VW but not from them.

Sarah in parts is nice. She will work with you on parts. They get them twice a week, so worth the extra coin if you are in a hurry. I've never let them service my vehicle, and the only thing I ever anticipate them doing is reflashing my immobilizer for a new key... which I will be waiting/ not dropping it off for.
