Hey, so Im looking to get some more sound out my WRX and was wondering what I should do. I plan to eventually get a full TBE, but for now I just want sound, so I was wondering if I should get an axle-back (Prodrive) or a cat-back (Borla hush). I know neither will give me power and Im not ready to get the full TBE yet, so.... any input?

Im a huge fan of Borla. Stuff lasts a long time. Sounds great, to me at least. And this puts you closer to your end goal of a TBE. I have the single tip on my RS and the tip is still shiny, no rust what so ever after one salty NY winter. Love the sound, performs great. If your just interested in sound search out some sound clips since its a very opinion based topic of what sounds good.

I was thinking about the same thing, and just ended up getting the prodrive oval tip. You won't get any noticeable power gains from it, but it sounds very nice and deep. Of course if you wanted to go stage II, you'd have to get a stealthback instead of just a DP..

Incorrect statement: DP is minimum req't for stg 2 from cobb, go read, its on their web site. That aside, if you just want sound, gut the stock muffler. Its way less than any aftermarket axleback.

I own an APS. The fit, finish, look, and sound are all increadible. Only the Axle back is on because I am waiting for some EM. MY04's dont like like TBE without some EM. But like everyone will say, this is a very opinionated topic. Figure out how loud you want it because that is all a cat-back will do.... Then go visit other guys with aftermarket cans and see what sounds good to you.

And you might as well buy used if you can!!!!
Save the money for EM on your 04

it all depends on how much money you want to spend and what design and sound you want.

Although it may not be technically a sticky, you find it in the FAQ... under "Unabomber's Manifesto"

So it should be easily found.

I personally am hoping to end up with the borla hush... but haven't the cash flow to do so yet.

Well I don't want anything too loud or too quite and I want it to be sporty/throaty/deep... I plan on getting the full TBE + Ecutek in a few months, but I want to change the sound now! I was thinking either just an axle back or an intake ( < I know, I know!). I just want to change the sound, I don't care about power because, as I said, that will come in a few months. I will be putting the Crucial uppipe on next week, which should be sweet. I hope to get more turbo sounds with that, if that's the case I'm going to get the Prodrive oval tip. Done and done!
