Default What wires to tap for boost gauge illuminatin

I just installed my autometer sport comp boost gauge, ran the lines to the bypass valve, everything works great and reads fine, but there is one exception

I have not wired the gauge to light up at night, because i do not know what wire to tap into. The gauge has a black and white wire, does anyone know what wires i should attach these too? (what color and where they are located), i took off the steering wheel column cover and looked under there so i have a general idea as to what it looks like.

Any help would be great, thanks.

I just hooked up the same boost gauge today and i spliced into the fog light relay. I believe the colors on the relay are Purple is Positive and Orange is negative.
Also if i were you i would use Vampire clips instead of splicing so you dont wreck the wire just in cause you want to remove it ever.

...the spare plug on the radio harness....it is 'dimmed' with the gauges....put a #168 bulb in the gauge and it will approximate the gauge illumination....run a couple wires and use spade connectors so ya don't have to cut/tap anything

I tapped into the fuse for the parking lights. It comes on with the head lights and you dont have to pull apart the dash to wire it. The only thing is that it doesnt dim....If that is important to you.

Forester

When doing my IC Spray switch I used the existing fog lamp wires and just tapped in to the dash lighting. If you go here:

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3642

and look about 7 posts down to "wiring up the switch" I have some pics and wiring diagrams. It's for the Forester but the dash lights are on the same pins across the line AFAIK. Here are a couple of pics that are there but you should look at the post to get a better idea. If you can't see the pics on the page you need to register, it's free to do so though.

Don't go by my wire colours as they may not be the same across the years but the pin positions are the same.

....all that is well and good.....but will it make the lights 'dim' with the rest of the gauges or not???? That was important to me so that's what I did.

I spent a long time figuring out the autometer thing.......just my 2

Yes, the way I did it, it will dim with the stock system since you are hooking directly into the stock dash light system.
