Default 16" to 17"

I have an 05 WRX and I want to know if the trade-off of a wider tire is worth the extra weight of a 17" wheel. Also, are there any moderately priced 17" wheels that do not weight that much more than the stock ones, or any 17" wheels in general that you would recommend.

Thanks

I am probably going to get isht for not searching.

Assuming your WRX is a sedan, 225/45-17 on a 17x7.5" wheel is just about a no-brainer.

Stock wheels + tires weigh approx 38lbs.

For example, 17x7.5 Rotas + 225/45-17 Kumho MX (a good, cheap high performance combo) weigh approx 41lbs.

That's not too bad a weight tradeoff for a huge increase in handling. If you want to equal the stock weight, it'll cost more $$$ for light wheels.

Where would you recommend buying a set of rotas? I don't believe Tire Rack has them.
Also are they cheaper than Gram Lights 57S or 57C?

www.subydude.com or any of several other Rota vendors who advertise here.

Cheaper? Yes. Rotas go for $150-175 per wheel, compared to $300 and up for the Gram Lights. Rotas are a couple of lbs heavier though.

For a dependable company, check out subydude.com. They have rota wheels for subaru, they also sell tires as well.

Another option is to scan the For Sale section for 04 STi BBS wheels. Used, they can go for 1000-1200 on average, and they're considered high performance wheels.

If you choose wisely you can find some good deals on quality, lightweight rims. Rota, OZ Superleggara, 5 Zigen FNO1RC, BBS RK, and Enkei are some that come to mind.

I got some Enkei RP-02s and love them. They look great and are about a pound lighter than stock. All 4 balanced perfectly with little weight. They are discontinued but maybe a few sets are still left.

i have an 05 wagon and am running 225 45 17 michelin ps2's on kosei k1 ts, the wheels weigh 13.7 i think, and the tires arent terribly heavy...all in all, its well worth it compared to the stockers...the stocks will go back on for winter though, i dont trust the kosei name to make it to the mountain and back without getting pretty banged up. i think they make good summer wheels though.

gram lights are over rated- go with the Kosei wheels... they are about the same or less in price and are lighter

Do they have gold painted Kosei K1 TS in 17x7? It doesn't seem so on Tire Rack.

Cheaper in all respects, ya. Gram Lights > Rota. Get the Gram Lights.
