Default How do I take the front bumper off on a 05 STI?

*I apologize if this is the wrong posting place*

I need to take my front bumper off...
I thought I got all of the tabs and screws, but it doesn't want to budge.
Does anyone have a link that shows all the screws that I need to remove and shows how to lift the bumper off the car?

Thanks so much!

I just took mine off and put it back on today...
Somewhere there is a posting of the FSM PDF file that explains how to do it.

Did you get the phillips-head screw tabs behind the wheel well guards at the top of the bumper (where the plastic bumper connects to the metal fender)? If you take off the driver's side fog cover, you can look through it and see the tab, and also go through the fog light hole to unscrew the tab. The passenger side is more difficult, and you have to get at it from behind the wheel well guard. Everything else is really in plain sight... All visible tabs when popping the hood, the (six?) tabs underneath the grille, the four visible tabs in the wheel wells (2 per side), the four tabs below the bumper (2 per side - both connect to the rubber wheel well guards), the two tabs behind the fog light covers (1 per side) and the single tab between the bumper and the undertray, smack dab in the middle. That's all of them!

Once you have all the tabs out, you can pretty much just pull the bumper straight off... Start at the driver's side wheel well and pull out and forward, and then continue all around to the passenger side. It's really easy.

Be careful not to strip the phillips-head tabs at the top of the bumper... I stripped the passenger-side and had to dremel it out. Will be heading to the dealer tomorrow to get a replacement.

Those were the directions I saw, but they weren't that much help... My STi definitely DID NOT have those three other tabs at the front of the bumper. Just that middle one. Odd... It had holes there, but they didn't attach to anything. And my bumper had never been removed prior to this.

I just put my jdm fogs on my 05 sti yesterday so I feel your pain. Here's some actual "real world" PHOTO INSTALL pics of that install and is all I used.

However referencing the PAPER INSTRUCTIONS as mentioned a few posts previous:

Top to bottom (front then side) in the order I removed them there are:
(Front)
4 that are near the headlights (2 each side)
--#3 in instructions
5 on the top edge of the bumper (underneath the grill)
--#3 in instructions
4 holding on the outside splash guards (2 each side)
--#5a in instructions
2 holding on the inner splash guard
--#5b in instructions
----The "point" of these can be seen once you have your "sti" fog light covers off
1 behind the plastic vertical center piece of the lower opening
--I.e. the vertical piece that is hidden by the front license plate if you have one.
--#6 in instructions
----Note there was only this one not 4 as shown in the instructions

(Side)
2 phillips head at the bottom of the front of the fenderwells (1 each side)
--#4 lower in instructions
2 phillips head where bottom of the fender and top of bumper meet on the side(1 each side)
--#4 upper (exploded diagram) in instructions
****These are probably the ones you're missing and are the same ones WR^2X referenced a few posts previous.
----They are oriented just like the ones on the lower splash guards.
----I.e. point is up/head is down.
----They are threaded plastic "screws".
----They are a bit of a pain to get to and I eventually just used the handle of a screwdriver to force the point down/back through the clip instead of just unscrewing it. To me these pos plastic screws almost seem like one time use. I.e. the heads get mangled when you unscrew them. I just order new ones and replace. But then again I'm an anal engineer.

Once all those are off just pull from the very back of the fender on each side and it will slide forward and off.

I just wanted to say thanks all. I got the bumper off.

For some silly reason, I thinkg the front of the car looks kinda sweet without the bumper. I mean, it gives it sharper lines. I could definitely envision a much sweeter, meaner looking front end now that I have the stock bumper off.

Now for my next thread topic... How do I put a STI front bumper back on? (I hope I remember where all the bolts and clips go. )

Basically keep putting tabs in holes until you run out of one or the other
After taking mine off, it took about 2 minutes to get it put back on and get all the tabs in place.

And replacement tabs are expensive! They must be special JDM plastic or something. Black tabs are $1.81, and the gray ones that connect the bumper to the fender are $2.91! Recockulous!
