Default any old old subaru engine update swaps made?

i was interested in if anyone has swapped a more recent subaru engine into an older Subaru, like the GL an XT days. I want to swap in a 2001 ej25 into my RX and am wondering what real issues i will encounter? if it is even possible? the main concern is the wiring setup? i really want to scrap the whole old wiring and do a complete swap over so i can smog in Cali. any info would be helpful.

Check out http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/ There's a few projects running around.

The latest development is a later type trans converted to a true DUAL RANGE tranny. Look in the message board.

It was done by a group in Quebec, the whole website was in French though. Lot of custom fabrication.

As for the original poster, anything can be done, it just takes time, patience, and money. However, I haven't seen an EJ20->XT swap around.

I want to put a WRX motor in a Brat. Or even a N/A EJ25!
