Default hydra nemesis vs MAP or Link question???

Can you tell me if the plug and play Hydra EMS for Impreza RS come with a base map or we have to start of noting if we want to tune it for a RS-T??

How much time can it get to a tuner who tune normally ecutech to tune a hydra if he never toch it before??

Depends on who you buy it from i believe. The Hydra should be amazingly easy to tune even for someone who hasn't used it before. Check out the Element tuning guides. Phil may have a base map for a RS

While we do not specialize in the RS we do have a large selection of tuned base maps that are available to Element Tuning customers. If you have an RS with a turbo engine then we have many maps to choose from. If you have a high compression RS engine with a turbocharger then we'll have to guide you with tuning the ignition curve.

The benefit to purchasing your unit from Element Tuning is the tech support since no one knows the Hydra better than we do and most of the mapping is fully tuned. What’s left are the fuel and ignition maps and how much work they need depends on the modifications.

Send an email or call and I'll let you know if we have maps that are close and need minor work or need major work.

Thanks,
Phil

RSts have had mixed feeling about the hydra. My personal experience is that it never worked perfectly for us. Tuning wise it wasn't overly difficult as Phil said he has set some of the correction maps to be in the ball park for you.

I would be cautious with the Hydra however. Our project didn't run for 4 months while Andrew and Hydra sorted out problems with out maps and internal harware issues with the hydra losing the crank position signal due to inadequate filtering and detection schemes. The hydra is also not very resilient as far as starting battery voltage and you will find other issues as you get closer and closer to a custom tune.

I am by no means saying that its not a good unit, it just hasn't been sorted out completely yet which can be expected of a new unit. The software and tuning interface is poor - the datalogging and data display is very poor. There is no graphing capability to speak of.

lastly: Phil may say he has maps. But by that he means that he has enough tuning on Subarus that he can piece you together a map from ones he has already tuning. You WILL have to completly retune idle and peak power
