Legacy Second generation AGX?

Is it possible to put KYB AGXs in a second generation sedan? I know they fit the first generation but are you able to put them in a second generation?

Yes it is. Just make sure you get the correct "top hats".

What are you intending to use for springs? BTW - this is well discussed in this link here. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=819664

You can use your existing top hats with no issues.

If you search on the AGX thread, I keep hearing different opinions on Top hats.

So whats the bottom line, you don't have to change them to run AGX struts?

Is there a performance advantage to switching out the top hats? It's probably one area I haven't really looked into.

I'm running whiteline GR-2's, but I wouldn't mind a slightly stiffer ride. If AGX's provide this I might swap my GR-2's out.

I emailed KYB to ask them about why they forgot the 2nd Gens in their AGX catalog...

Kraziken - if you do go to AGX, consider me as a purchaser for your GR2's.

Care to give any further information about how easy/difficult it was, what you had to do etc?

Well I ordered them from cobb tuning. I'm guessing they were for an impreza. I got these installed at a shop, when I was less knowledgable about my cars. They must have been for an impreza, because when I got stainless steel brake lines for the legacy, they wouldn't fit properly through the fitting on the struts.

*sigh* and again the urban myth machine cranks up again.

I was hoping for some definitive answers regarding installation and use of tophats etc.
Everyone seems to "know someone" or "had work done by"...

Tora's post talked me into them. I've been pretty happy with the GR-2, but even I was looking for something more aggressive.

AGX's are on the way, if you are interested in my Gr-2's, PM me.

Also available is my 22mm Whiteline Front sway bar. I had my fingers crossed that I could keep it, since I liked it so much, but it rubs. I've got a Perrin front swaybar in it's place heading to the shop.

Kraziken -

I'm very interested to hear how the AGXs work for you, compared to the Gr-2s

I'll do a big post when my ride is complete.

I'm swapping out so many parts, I'm sure it will feel like a complete new car.

I just got in the mail my Heavy duty Whiteline end links. woohoo. I managed to pick them up at almost half price.

Small request.
When people have installed their AGX units, please list EXACTLY what top hats (front, rear) perches, springs etc. you used.

Part #'s would be awesome too.

I'm using Group N Tops (Front: ST2031055000 Same for each side, Right Rear: ST203704S000 Left Rear: ST203704S010)

Stock Legacy Upper Perches front and rear: No Part Numbers
1993-2001 Impreza AGX Struts: 733006, 733007, 733010, 733011
iON Springs for 1995-1999 Legacy

Hopefully I'll get the chance to install them tomorrow. Depends on when the rear strut tops come in. When I bought the car it had GR2's and stock springs. I'm ditching the GR2's because they've been on there for 100k+, and the stock springs are sagging quite a bit. The new stuff should hopefully make a dig difference.

Aie chihuahua.
Struts and top hats don't have hardly any incompatability issues between models. So I wouldn't sweat that one.

All the fuss you hear is compatability between SPRINGS and the top hats. It's just that both issues get confused in the same threads and people get skeeered.

I'll believe a setup, when I see it.
Fact is, even you have said there is a smidge of incompatibility.

Let me put it in perspective, I installed the AGX part# for my 2000 Impreza RS Coupe on my 1990 Legacy Wagon. Then I put the same shocks on my 1991 Legacy turbo sedan. All stock springs, all stock top hats. Not only were they compatible, but changes in ride height was fractions of an inch in all cases.

Why do I say that there very few incompatibilites between shock and top hat? Unlike the spring, the parts hardly interface with each other in a direct sense. As long as you can fit the damper rod through the hole in the top hat, it will fit. Not a lot can go wrong.

Do I know whether every single shock fits every top hat? Nope. Do you ever get that kind of assurance when you are trying to put aftermarket parts on an old Legacy? Not usually.

Now, since when does it make sense to roll your eyes at a stranger who is trying to do you a favor by answering your question? It's not like we're a professional company who is getting paid to help you and from whom you expect good customer service.

Might it make more sense for ME to roll your eyes at a noob question that has been beaten to death a thousand times and easily answered by a search?

FYI, I have searched. and FYI, the best answer I've had is from wrx_driver_2002. (see above)
I'm not looking to apply AGX struts to a 1990 Legacy wagon, or a 1991 Legacy turbo sedan.

This is a 2nd generation thread. I'm looking for input on compatibility on BD/BG type Legacies.

I'll ignore the snipe at the rolling eye's emoticon, because it's irrelevant to the discussion (besides, don't you see the little upturned smile on the emoticon?).
