Au contraire, some older North America subarus had front LSDs... the XT turbo and XT6 definitely had them. They had dual-range center diffs too... Does that count?

Of course in 1988 an XT6 would set you back $20,000 and 10 years later that same money bought a 2.5RS. Too many gadgets, too overpriced.

Why the hell would they put an LSD in the front and not the back of an AWD car? Simple, they wouldn't. Rear only LSD, yes. Front and rear LSD, yes (although not in any North American factory Impreza).
Then again, if you've driven a car with only front LSD I guess you would definately feel the difference from a car with front and rear LSD's.

heck,
Skyline GTR has AWD, ATTESA(active center diff), HICAS(4 wheel steering)...
Lancer EVO7 has AWD, ACD(active center diff), AYC(active yaw control)...
Impreza STi-typeRA has DCCD(manual adjustable center diff), and good ole clutch type rear diff.

Subaru is the least equipped

if you really want to feel the lack of a front LSD ... drive in deep snow 6"-10" in you can feel the tire with out power drag

or put it up on a lift and fire it up ... my dealer did that looking for a bad wheel bearing ..3 tires spinning 1 totaly stopped

Question

So with LSD, it's tougher to *slide* the car? or meaning drift it than grip it thru corner? That's why the Impreza WRC doesn't have the LSD then maybe?

Getting front/rear LSD from Cobb isnt a bad idea I think they sell them, though expensive to buy, not to mention about installation cost.

Installation costs???

What are those? I think most people do their own LSDs, it really isn't that hard. But then I have a climate-controlled garage with three in-floor pneumatic lifts and more tools and gadgets than I could ever use on my car.

I guess I'll have to field a bunch of requests for the use of my "shed" now

Fun Stuff!

A couple of Notes....

AWD implys an Open or at least Limited Slip Center Diff. It has to be this way to allow you to Drive on surfaces with traction (Pavement).

4WD Implies a Fully Locking Center Diff. This is Only usable off road and is the system seen in most older trucks (New Trucks and SUV's may have AWD).

My other car is a Mazda 323 GTX it has an Electronicly Locking Center Diff (On or Off) Controleld by a dash mounted button.

I have been told that this is a little better for offroad racing becuase there is no "Shift" in power you would get with a Limited Slip center Diff... It does lack a rear LSD which is something I must rectify.
