M3
or M5 I would update the headlights and taillights to LED of course. Both are surprisingly similar in price and milage in the used market. This is just for poops and giggles of course ![]()

M5. Perfect comfort/performance sedan, IMO. It just does something for me the M3 never has.

I've always had a soft spot for E39 M5's. The new ones look like random pieces of scrap metal riveted together.

E46 M3 is a slightly better handling car, better if you're going to be running the car on track, and has slightly better brakes.
E39 M5 is teh ultimate family sedan. If I could have any 5 and only 5 street cars, the M5 would be on my list, and the M3 wouldn't. |

I personally hate the raspy exhaust note of the M3. The M5 is just so much more car for the money!

The answer is self evident and explains the poll results thus far. E39 M5 > * - Janq |

There is a silver M5 that is asking $35899 with 45,000miles on it just 20 miles from me. I'm struggling to hold back. I'm getting a raise this month and it has my mind wondering where it shouldnt be. ![]() |

I'm in the minority here, which is odd. I prefer the m3 as the m5 is just too big for my tastes. I actually find it interesting that so many here prefer the m5 as a number of you, quentinberg007 has gone on to extol the virtues of lighter weight cars in a thread or two as of late.

i've driven neither, so i really wouldn't know, but the M3 SEEMS like a lighter, more sporting car while the M5 seems like a heavier highway cruiser..
if that's true i think i'd take the 3.. |

Older M5 will most likley be out of warranty and they are not cheap to upkeep. But they are beasts and beautiful to look at.
I have an M3 and wouldnt mind an M5 at all. However maybe when I am a little older and need the 4 doors. I voted for the M5. |
