Default $22,900 excluding taxes/tags good deal for new 05 FXT?

went to the local subaru dealership and took a look at the 05 FXT. sticker price said $27,400 but we haggled them down to $22,900 excluding taxes/tags. Before we left he offered one last $22,500 excluding taxes/tags. i said that we'd come back since we can still look around. do you think that this is a good deal? its new with 122 miles on it.

There is a nice FXT, '04 with 12k miles on it with nice suspension mods and tint selling in NY for 19k (negotiable). I've been eyeing it, and considering selling my wrx and buying it. So, 22k for a new '05 doesn't seem that bad, but I haven't priced the new ones yet. You might also want to check out subaruforester.com. I think that there was some opinion over there that 22k was too much for an "old" '05 and that 20k was closer. Guess it really depends on the market though.

Invoice is $23.8k on a no-option FXT 5MT. Edmunds says there is a $2000 rebate until 8/31 on '05 Forester XT's. I'd say "$22.5k sounds good. Now what about the $2000 Manufacturer to Customer rebate deal on the '05's going on right now?"

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'd bet that the dealer has already figured in the rebate, but you never know. Best check it out. If you go to Subaru.com you can find out what rebates are offered in your area. They often vary by region.

If your looking for other options, I'm selling this vehicle. 122 miles on a "new" vehicle generally means it has been used for "test/joy" rides.

2004 Silver Forester XT(completely stock in excellent condition)
16,500 miles (Mobil 1 since 7,500 change)
Options: Manual transmission, Rear Cargo Mat, Armrest Extension and Bumper Cover.
One owner, 43 years old, non-smoker.
$18,500 firm.

Reason for sale: Wife's job change required that I take 3 kids to school and 3 car seats in rear are too tight so I've bought a larger vehicle.

Hey I have 3 car seats in mine, the kids fit fine if you smash them in!

Seriously, I have one regular car seat for a 1.5 year old, a base for the carrier that the 4 month old rides in, and a plain booster for the 4 year old that fits in the middle. It is a close fit but it fits. Luckily for the 4 year old, who likes more room, the only time they get into my car is to and from daycare that they only go to twice a week. It is 1/4mile from my house. For everything else, my wife has the Caravan!

You're right about smashing them in. When you're youngest moves up to the next size seat (which is the largest of the 3 categories of seats) you will literally have to close the door to push all three seats in. When my youngest moved up to a "regular" car seat I decided to sell it.
