Default 98rs DOHC heads on EJ22t info

I have a 98rs and there is a subie shop that has a EJ22t block and they are willing to trade me that for my phase1 EJ25 block. I already have a TD04 and wrx i/c ready and waiting, the only thing that stops me from going through with it is due to my lack of money. My only real concern is not having enough $ to get an engine management system suiable for my needs, so my question is what would be a good enough system to run my setup for a cheap price(under $500)

An S-AFC. Do a search. I've written pretty extensively about it. Buy my old one. $150 and it's already configured exactly how you need it.

yes I thought about using a SAFC but the lack of ignition timing concerns me, isn't that a major priority?

One way to look at what is going on is that the AFC is scaling the load maps in the factory ECU. This is one reason why injector sizing is important here. Ideally you want your injectors to be at an 80-85% duty cycle at max boost at redline. This becomes your 100% load point. When the ECU sees 100% load it uses appropriate timing cells. I've written a bit on how to get the ECU to adapt to where it needs to be. But in the end it works very well. With 555cc injectors I was still seeing stock gas mileage with no knock even at 22psi. You definately are giving up some power this way... but it still works well.
