235/40 would be the size you probably want. 235/45 are too tall. 17x8 wheel would do it.

what offset and width wheel are you running?

is 235/40 or 235/45 closer to stock height?

235/40 is a bit smaller, 235/45 is a good amount taller than stock.

Someone post the miata site tire size calculator.

...the 45 will be 'taller' and give slower acceleration(relativly) than stock....but may yeild better MPG on the highway....

....the 40 will be 'shorter' and give a bit better acceleration(relatively) and may yeild a bit less MPG on the road....an 8-9.5" wide wheel is 'recomended'....but many, here(myself included) use them on 7.5" wide wheels.

I like the gearing advantage of the 235/40 over the 225/45.

do you think i will have any rubbing issues with 17x7.5 +50 if i run the 235/40?
I know the fender will clear, I am concerned about the strut clearance.
Thanks!

....no.....that is exactly what I have and I get no rub and it isn't even close.....and I'm dropped ~1.3" over stock.

....and the little bit of gearing advantage is great, too

cool. I was going to go with the usual 225/45 but i would rather gain a little width.
Thanks for helping me decide!

Damnitdamnitdamnit.

I let the guy at STS tire and auto convince me I'd have rubbing issues with the 7.5" wheels so they sold me 225/45 even though I came in there asking for 235/40 I don't think he did it on purpose but it still sucks.

Oh well...I'll just abuse my current tires some more and get new ones next spring.
